Gjert Ingebrigtsen is notorious for being a micromanaging helicopter dad. In the Team Ingebrigtsen documentary, you can see one of the sons yelling at his father, "Is this a dictatorship?"
He's the Norwegian Dad equivalent of the Asian Tiger Mom depicted by Amy Chua. This certainly does breed a lot of success, but burnout becomes a real risk under such intense conditions.
No hes not. He is doing what they demand of him. He asks them if they wanna go all inn, if they say yes he do what is necessary for them to reach their goals. He is not pushing them to perform, he is pushing them to do the right things after they've told him they want to go all inn.
Burnout? Why would a top athlete burn out by being a professional?
Agree, Gjert has the courage to impose the structure they need, probably know they need even when they’re arguing with it, and have agreed to. It’s hard to be the guy who has to say — no you shouuldnt move to Oslo because one of our key strengths is that we have a group, and we are together. Or to say, no, your girlfriend who is sick should not be hanging around the house — much better for dad to say it than the son to. Gjert has the courage to take the unpopular decisions that everyone knows are right, and it is super clear to all of them he loves them all regardless of track or whether or not they run.
