One wonders how much the wind affected the times today. A full minute?

This makes the potential 3 (well in reality 2) spots for the 2020 Olympic marathon a little more interesting at least.
Both smith and Fauble ran faster then Derricks Marathon (2:12:50 Chicago, IL 08 OCT 2017)
Also if NAZs website is up to date Fauble ran 2:12 off of Prs of 10,000m – 28:00.43 (2016) and
Half Marathon – 1:03:06 (2016).
That's a really good debut after you take all that into consideration.

I think that race was a fluke
No such thing as a fluke in the marathon. Good and bad days? Yes. But flukes? No.
That is corect.
Shoutout to Arne Gabius running just under 2:10 at the age of 36 on home soil (ran 2:08 in this race 2 years ago).

I'm not sure what to make of her Marathon Race. She really tailed off with about 6 miles to go, so basically
she hit the wall. Last week, she stated that she was in 2: 20 shape, so maybe the windy conditions affected her run
However, she did not look comfortable, and I still think she is try to grow her aerobic station to run a fast
marathon. Transitioning from doing a lot of Vo2 max training and speed work to focusing on tempo and MP runs can
be tough for some, so it make taker her awhile to go 2:20 or sub 2:20.
She is nowhere near being able to challenge Mary K or Dibaba. Lets see if she can get stronger during the off season to
become a presence in London next year.
