Those training numbers mightn't sound that big next to his brothers. But where I'm from, they're unheard of for a 15yo. And we have elite 1500 runners doing well on the circuit right now.
This is a subject I've got a vested interest in. I've got an elite 2000 born kid, though in a different track event. We've been wrestling with how hard he should be training him. He's getting near adult levels in terms of running volume, though only started proper gym 2 months ago and has a long way to go. He's also an average developer and still filling out. Ingerbritsen looked the same as his brothers in the picture I saw.
It's very hard to know for any kid that age how much big improvement they have left. It's hard to believe Ingerbritsen has big jumps left, because that would make him a future 3.20 runner. I've seen him run and he doesn't look that extraordinary.
I wonder if they are preparing him for World Youths next year (U18 next year, so perfect for 2000 born kids). Guess where it is? Yep, Nairobi. Jakob would need to beat the local 23yos who turn up.
Sorry, Sato was obviously legitimate. It must be said that Ryun wasn't getting a lot of chances at 1500m.

Here is the UNDER 18 list, meaning an Athlete can NOT turn 18 in the Calendar year of the Performance. Jakob has the rest of this season and all of 2017 to be on this list.
http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/middle-long/1500-metres/outdoor/men/u18Jim Ryun is #22 at 3:39.00
Haha. Do any of those above Ryun have absolute proof of DOB? I thought not.
Of course the Moroccans including Driouch have birth certificates. My father has his birth certificate even! Morocco is not in the same boat as the Kenyans on age cheating. Unfortunately, they are in the same boat when it comes to doping lol.

The Kenyans do have birth certificates, the birth date is just a wild guess (usually way too young). Bahrain/Qatar have intentionally altered the birthdates. I don't believe the Kenyans are intentional age cheaters but enough of them have wildly inaccurate birth certificates and set unbelievable "junior" records.

Legitimate, but he wasn't youth/"U18" because he turned 18 that year (several days later). Ryun was as he had only turned 17 less than two months earlier.

Thats just running. Compare it to other professional sports and its not such a big deal. Can't understand why more people aren't able to see this.

He started growing last year. It was expected it could halt his development until he got used to his new height, apparently not.

How he looks doesn't matter. Henrik has a style that doesn't look great at all. This kid is going far, most likely. Will he run 3.31 like Henrik? Maybe, maybe not. Will he be a great sub 3.40 runner? Most likely. This ain't no Alan Webb project.
He's almost sub 3.40 already.
As I said, it's hard to know how big the remaining improvements will be. And I meant IMO if someone was going to be the first 3.20 1500 runner ever, it would be someone who has great form and insane natural speed. I don't see Jakob as that person, but I could be wrong.

Yeah maybe, all I know is that all of my family abroad (Morocco) have accurately recorded birth dates and certificates as far as I know, albeit birthdays are of little importance.

The mile is almost never run in countries with the metric system (and they don´t care either).
The biggest meet in this guy's country puts on a mile race every year, and has done so for decades.
And among Diamond League meets alone (several of which don't even have a 1500m, mile, or 3k for the men!), at least three have the mile, Prefontaine, Oslo, and London. The death of the mile is vastly exaggerated. He'll get attempts and I do not think that he would not consider it significant. Indeed, I recall Henrik celebrating a lot when he broke 3:51. (Incidentally, he is a 3:31 guy with just a 1:48.60 800m pr (from 2012)!--that's Hunter/Slagowski territory--should he try 3k and 5k? That is seriously fine speed decay from 800m to 1500m if he is not substantially better at 800m now--which he has to be).

Well, we will see!
To me, if he runs 3:42 he's sub 4 mile. I don't differentiate.

No, but he'll have run the 1500 meter equivalent of a sub 4 mile.

Yes on June 23rd 2016

Not really, we will always be part of Europe, we are just voting over if we stay in the European Union.

You write such thoughtful and insightful posts that it's a shame you come across as another of the LRC ignorant trolls when you talk about Kenyan age-cheating and doping.
I wish you would change your attitude there.

I don't know about doping, but Kenyan age cheating is a joke. And it'll reach a crescendo next year when Kenya hosts World Youths.

Well to be honest, I am simply echoing what I have heard from the media. I am no expert.
Kenya has had documented problems with age cheating, such as this major case:
http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/mobile/article/2000199139/deal-with-age-cheatingI am sure the majority of their young talent is just that; young. The topic at hand was about the 'all-time' list of under 18 1500m performances. It would ignorant to not acknowledge that age cheating is real and could factor in the legitimacy of that list.
However, I do not think that everyone faster than Jim Ryun is age or drug cheating, as some posters have insinuated. That is American elitism and has no truth. All of those boys are individuals in their own right and are not simply 'Kenyans' or 'Ethiopians', so I apologise for my previous, perhaps insensitive, comments.
