Slowing now. Last lap 1:09.
4000 m: 11:23.57. She's getting slower.
Another 1:09. Unless she really kicks record lives another day.
Needs a 2:48 to get the WR
2:53 from 3k to 4k but she's still got a great shot. Just need to avg 70 on these last 3 laps
Needs a 1:41 last 600. SHE HAS IT.
11:23.57 @ 4k
400 to go, 13:07.
Needs a 65 last lap. She's speeding up but it'll be VERY close
14:12.61.
Who's winning?
Does she look relaxed?
Agonisingly close at14:12 for Ayana.
14:12.59 official.
Close enough.
Works for me!
There's new hope for women's 800 m runners next year, if I understood correctly Semenya said in an interview that Rio would be her/his last big games.

it would be very sporting if she won every race and then didn't race in Rio
she knows this isn't really fair
What a great athlete to watch! Maybe the first 3k were little bit too fast - but 7 laps alone in a 5000m race, what a great performance.
Both she and Genzebe Dibaba almost certainly will break the current WR.

The BBC commentators keep going on about how Ayana is far away the best mid-distance runner in the world, and how there is nobody who can challenge her.
The meet isn't on the BBC so I doubt those are BBC commentators.
I thought the announcing was a bit poor on that one.
WR pace is 68.09 per lap (or 2:50 and change per km). They said she only needed to run 70s for the last 3 laps to get the WR. That wasn't true. At 4k, the time was 11:23.57. WR pace (if running even paced) is 11:20.92. Yes, Ayana was running faster than what Dibaba was - but she technically wasn't on WR Pace. Still I thought she'd still get it.
The IAAF has listed the lap by lap splits I'm not sure if these are from the start or the finish line (I'm thinking the finish line).
1-1:10.84
2-1:08.16
3-1:08.90
4-1:07.61
5-1:08.20
6-1:07.11
7-1:07.90
8-1:09.04
9-1:09.31
10-1:09.17
11-1:08.57
12-1:06.11
i did a hand time of her last lap and had 32.46/32.66. Did anyone else get the last laP?
