Not too late. Confidence can be rebuilt, but it can be done at shorter races.
How old was Meb when he won Boston? And people are saying Kipsang is finished at 33...

Do either of her parents work other than Mark coaching?
In the past her father/coach was accused of putting her through a lot of mileage. I don't know enough to judge if she was overtraining or not, so I can't pass judgement on the father/coach. After today's ridiculous performance it is clear he doesn't know what he is doing.
She goes to UNC Charlotte, not UNC Chapel hill. School is a few minutes from her parents' house, so she can continue to train with Dad and run on established routes.

I wonder how she can miss so many classes. Where I go to college if you miss more than 2 class periods, for any reason (NCAA sports particpation, illness, death in family, etc) your grade is significantly reduced. Also, does anyone else find it odd that Mark drives all the way to UNC to get her, take her back home to run, and then bring her back? Is she incapable of not seeing her parents or running by herself?
In most stories about Alana, it's mentioned that Mark ran in college. Anyone know if he was good in college or just another dude running.
Mark is sad!
This is why you don't go pro at 16. Granted some people get away with it but she should have gone to college ran with them for four years then later pick up the marathon like most runners do. Running the marathon takes a lot of mental maturity that even an 18 yr old does not have
she needs a different coach. now.
The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!!

Actually she has an ankle injury, and it's all wrapped up in the photo.
No big deal. She'll recover soon and keep running well.
put that ankle under and xray and nothing's coming back.

You are right. Sprains only show up on MRI.

10K 32:15 to 34:59

Here's a reasonable SWAG:
50-50 (1:1) that Thweatt goes sub 2:30
75-25 (3:1) that Hadley is 10 minutes or more behind at the end
Similarly matched women as Thweatt haven't broken 2:30 at NYC. Double her HM and add 10-12 minutes to get a prediction of what she'll run.
You were off by 4 to 8 minutes.
What say now?
Just read the "replies" to her DNF tweet. Surprised no LRCers trolled it :)
