Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor 27:11:89
Bedan Karoki 27:15:33
Paul Tanui 27:18:45
Vincent Yator 27:33:45
The Nairobi all-time list before today :
27:26.93A Wilson Kiprop KEN 14.04.87 1 Nairobi 26.06.2010
27:27.59A Geoffrey Mutai KEN 07.10.81 2 Nairobi 26.06.2010
27:28.13A Mathew Kisorio KEN 16.05.89 3 Nairobi 26.06.2010
27:29.13A Titus Mbishei KEN 28.10.90 4 Nairobi 26.06.2010
27:31.61A Bedan Karoki KEN 21.08.90 1 Nairobi 13.07.2013
Some interesting points
- The top 4 times were at the '10 Kenya trials for upcoming African championships which was a slightly slower race again in Nairobi
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_African_Championships_in_AthleticsThe top 4 finishers in trials were obviously in top shape
- Karoki won '13 trials in 27'31.6 & came 6th in WC in Moscow.
Tanui came 2nd in trials in 27'32.76 & won bronze in Moscow. He's now got Nairobi time down to 27'18
- Canova who coached Kiprop reckoned he was in 26'40 shape at sea-level
so you have prelim : 27'26A = 26'40 at sea-level, -> for Geoffrey at 27'11A of ~ 26'25
A possibly better conversion is to combine NCAA altitude App with Wind-Altitude Calculator ( as NCAA App intuitively doesn't seem to include this ) :
27'11.89 run at 5,450' ( 1,661m )
Nearest 2 venue on App are Golden, Co, which is at 5,675' & Denver at 5,276'.
The average of 2 is 5,475.5' which is virtually same as Nairobi
( ignore 25' higher for average as the lack of pacers in Nairobi will swallow that up )
At Golden : 27'11.89 = 26'08.75
At Denver : 27'11.89 = 26'15.58
The average is : 26'12.17
Now, slow Nairobi times down by Wind-Altitude calculator, because they have less air-resistance to run against :
http://myweb.lmu.edu/jmureika/track/wind/27'11.89 = 16.3189s for 100m
Input that with Nairobi altitude of 1,661m & 0 wind for "basic" time -> 16.404s
Therefore, adjust 26'12.17 by ( 16.404 / 16.3189 ) ->
26'20.37 !!!
Make of it what you will...
