With the shape he's in now, Meb would not be ready for Berlin. You can count that one out.

He is in Chicago today... Hoping he runs the Chi this fall.
I didn't think he liked running fast courses -- pretty much ruins any chance for placing... but maybe one last PR for the Mebber if his training and head is still in the game.
Maybe he's running a marathon on a track.
He's running New York marathon.

Just announced on @CBSThisMorning - @runmeb & @CaroWozniacki will run the @nycmarathon as @TeamforKids Ambassadors
This is some type of semi-retirement? He run's them as an ambassador, and doesn't have to worry about his time?
He's probably thinking there is no need to announce a retirement. He can see what he can do as a master, and if fellow Americans don't step up, there may still be a possible opening on the Rio 2016 marathon team.

So much for a 'BIG' announcement.

Honestly, I would do the exact same thing if I were him. He gets money, but doesn't have to bust his butt on working towards being competitive.
He is already qualified for the next trials, correct?
Would be cool to see him do these easy pace ambassador runs for the next year or two, with harry a word where his fitness is at, and then show up on the trials starting-line ready to throw-down!
Sounds like a ploy.

So I guess he didn't get in through the lottery and therefore runs it for charity. Great.
P.S.: doesn't NYRR have guaranteed entry for folks running faster than 2:45? Or is that only for Americans?
NYRR press release:
It would have been a surprise if Meb, as a former winner, weren't running NYCM. It's also hardly a surprise that he's doing celebrity sorts of things connected with the event. It would be a surprise if he isn't also planning on training toward and running the most competitive race possible.
now all that's left to wait for Ato Bolden's news :(

I can assure you, he's running to win in NYC! At the same time, he's going to help raise money for both Team for Kids and the MEB Foundation.
Just saw this thread and haven't read all of it. With said, he will buy out UCAN?

'He run is them as an ambassador'?
Last night Meb done a question and answer session on Twitter. Someone asked if he had any plans to run Chicago, this is his reply:
.@c2bonbon I haven't done it in 11 years. I'm winding down my marathons. #mebrunsnyc
It looks like he very well is looking at retirement.

Oh David , your a very nice man and do great things for our sport. For Meb it all about the money and his history shows that. The side bar activity that benefits his running charity is not his primary purpose. NYC is smart enough to know he is the biggest draw in the world of mens marathoning at the moment. Meb knows running Chicago and Berlin is not his best choice , he at this age just doesn't have that type of speed to run sub 2:05 and these races are paced for records. NYC is a great choice for his style of racing and a course that suites his strength as a runner. Im afraid though his post Boston band wagon tour has kept him traveling at a crazy pace and he won't be at his marathon best on the starting line.
Actually, I heard he was going to coach Ryan Hall. Teach him how to win something.
