The perfect joke. Just one Twitter message and 1000 super-coaches know all, really all, details of a world class-perfomer and his training and what would work better for him.
Lagat simply does what works for him. Agree?

Actually they probably know as much if not more than he does. There are some highly knowledgeable people on the board.
Lol, El G, Komen, & Tergat TRAINED 7 days a week.Where are they now? (Well, we know were Komen is....the bar - but not on Sundays since that can get you arrested in Kenyan unless you pay the cops off)

Geb, Bekele, El G, Komen, & Tergat train 7 days per week
They are all much faster than Lagat at 3000m and 5000m

At home counting their WC/Olympic Gold medals &/or world records, something Lagat has neither of
Lagat has a few WC gold medals. You are not update.
There's no way that Lagat could have run only 12:49.6 at his peak. He concentrated on the 1500m during El G's prime and during his own prime also missed two world championships for eligibility issues (a positive A, the negative announced after the 2003 championships, too late for him to compete, and the switch to American citizenship in 2005's champs). He then was injured in 2008 and that left him back.
But still, Lagat ran 3:26.3, second all time, and 12:53.6 in 2011, four years after his double gold at world's in 2007 (he outkicked Eliud Kipchoge to win the 5000m in 86 degree weather
http://osaka2007.iaaf.org/documents/pdf/3653/AT-5000-M-f--1--.RS1.pdf
). In the 1500m, he beat the doper Rashid Ramzi, who won silver after dominating in 2007 and initially winning Olympic gold in 2008, as well as Kiprop (in 4th).
He won Olympic silver in 2004, almost beating El G, Olympic bronze in 2000, behind the two fastest milers of all time (Ngeny and El G), (he ran 3:32.4 in defeat). He has won three Indoor World Champs golds at 3000m. He won outdoor World 5000m silver twice in 2009 and 2011. In 2009, Bekele controlled the pace (at least at every kilometer mark--2:54/2:40/2:40/2:38/2:25--13:17), beating Lagat by .24. In 2011, in the 5000m he got blocked and pushed out in the sprint by Gebremeskel with about 100m to go but still lost to Mo Farah by only .28, while beating Gebremeskel, Koech, and other former or future medalists. He won indoor 3k world silver in 2014. He was World 1500m silver medalist in 2001 (3:31.1!) and World 1500m bronze medalist in 2009, where he beat Kiprop, Choge, and Baala, plus several other future medalists in Iguider and Manzano. If he ran 12:53.6 AR in 2011, 12 years after his 1500m pr, and in a race that was relatively slow to the bell and won only in 12:52, he surely had low 12:40s in him around the time he destroyed Bekele in 12:59. 12 World and Olympic medals is pretty damn impressive.
I think Ron Clarke did that every day in the 1960s, only farther and faster.

impressive if it really happened!
2007 was a vintage year for the ageless wonder lagat when he held off the dopper ramzi to win 1500m gold
all the while clean himself
miracles do happen
ramzi would go on to fulfill his dream winning 1500m gold the following year 2008
subsequently he was disqualified when incredibly both his A and B samples came back positive for the exact same substance

I think he is making a quip about the wording and implication that Lagat got 2xSilver in the 5000 both years for total of 4 silvers.

i'm the guy who get's pilloried for over-estimating times & now i get arguments for under-estimating them !?
one word :
hicham !
hicham in '03 was a 3'28 guy & i'd bet had better speed than bernie who went 3'29 in '06
hicham that year managed 12'50pb, getting walloped by cherono in stretch in 12'48
i'd bet also hicham was a better 5k guy than bernie as he'd shown better over-distance ability in the past, running 7'23 off 1500 training in '99
so, hicham had better speed/better endurance than bernie '06 & hicham still only managed 12'50 in a pretty good paced race
i stick by a 12'49 limit for bernie in '06

malmo, Canova. that makes two.

Maybe for a marathoner.
Meanwhile, Lagat and Li actually do seem to know something about training for the 1500/3000/5000.
I don't disagree that people can use a day off, but in reality he is not running that fast in terms of his abilities.
5:12 pace for someone who ran 12:58 in 2013 is equivalent to 80% of their vVo2 max. Not that fast! That is like saying that a 15:00 5k runner did an 11 mile run at an average of 5:55 the day after taking a day off. Not an an easy run, but very doable for someone in that kind of fitness.

Nitpicking here but, that 12:50 obviously wasn't the fastest El G could have run in 2003. At the World Champs he ran a 12:52 with a 53 last lap (1:52 last 800).

That wasn't world champs but he did run 12:53 with a 53 last lap, right behind Mo. I assume ventolin is only talking about 2006, Lagat could have gone much faster in 2011.
you really needed a comma there to understand?
Maybe Lagat's change in citizenship from Kenya leads to your underestimating him?
El G's one race doesn't mean that Lagat could not have ridden behind a low 12:40s guy the whole way in the proper race. If Gebremeskel can run mid 12:40s, maybe better, why not Lagat? After all, a 12:53 at least three years after his peak (2010-2007), in a 12:52 race does suggest much better in 2007 or even better in 2004-6.
