I officiate soccer and T&F. I ran, jogged, and walked 5 miles in a U14 boys game according to my wrist GPS. My son always needed a sub in soccer until he ran cross in 7th grade. Then his coach never subbed him, and he kicked everybodies butts in wind sprints. My opinion is that unless those team sports like soccer and basketball have conditioning off season that matches cross country, they are not as in shape as the d crew. Also, a basketball court is tiny compared to a soccer pitch. Also, the BB players get a lot more subs than a soccer player, esp the pros, who only get 3 subs per match total, and once subbed, you cant return.
