From the Austin newspaper:
So who will Texas hire? UT officials aren't talking, but after extensive conversations over two days with numerous sources, here are some coaches ? listed in no particular order ? to perhaps keep an eye on:
Pat Henry, Texas A&M
First at LSU and now in his ninth season at A&M, Henry has accumulated 34 overall men's and women's NCAA team titles, by far the most of any active coach and the third-most all-time. Seven of the championships have come with the Aggies, all in the past five years. A&M swept the men's and women's outdoor crowns from 2009-2011, and the Aggies shared the men's title this season with Florida. Popular A&M assistant coach Vince Anderson also might be a candidate.
Mike Holloway, Florida
Speaking of the Gators, Holloway is one of the hottest names out there. The Florida graduate has spent his entire coaching career in Gainesville, first in the high school ranks before becoming an assistant with the Gators in 1995. He became the head men's coach in 2002, and began directing both teams in 2007. His 2012 men's team swept the indoor and outdoor NCAA titles for the first time in history.
Robert Johnson, Oregon
The idea of Johnson leaving for Texas might seem far-fetched since Oregon is the epicenter for track in the United States, and the Ducks' home of Hayward Field is one of the most iconic track facilities in the country. Still, Johnson's name has been bandied about, even though he just completed his second season as head coach after several years an an assistant. He's regarded as a sprints specialist.
Dennis Shaver, LSU
Shaver, a 1979 graduate of Texas-Arlington, was an assistant to Henry at LSU from 1996-2004 before being promoted when Henry left for A&M. The Tiger women won NCAA outdoor titles under Shaver in 2008 and 2012 while the men have had four second-place finishes in the national outdoor meet.
Mario Sategna, Texas
If Texas promotes from within, Sategna would be the logical choice. An assistant for 10 years under Thornton, the 1996 LSU graduate has a sterling resume of producing champions in the field events and multi-events. Sategna coached Trey Hardee to the college decathlon record, and he has continued to work with Hardee en route to two world championships and the silver medal at the 2012 Olympics.
Stanley Redwine, Kansas
The former Arkansas standout, in his 13th year at Kansas, guided the Jayhawk women to their first NCAA team championship earlier this month. The women also captured their first Big 12 outdoor team title this year.
