to be quite honest i feel jager would be the one likely out of all those 5 guys to do it he has the push the stride the endurance and the hair to do it

As long as Fernandez is training and competing, I wouldn't write him off. The theory that he was burned out because of a long season (I'm presuming referring to his Freshman track season) is a load of hogwash. He simply has been injured too much and is lacking the mileage. He'd probably do best with a Salazar program with anti-gravity treadmills and all that crap. Hope his current coach can get him healthy.
Why are people putting a cap on Derrick's potential as not as good as Ritz/Teg/Solinsky? He was faster than all those guys in college, and is certainly ahead of their curves in his first post-collegiate season. As long as he has a similar improvement arc, he should be good for sub-12:54 in a couple years.
Stuns the world with a 7th place at NCAA XC. Tales of his demise are overblown.
That's not the type of progression you'd like to see from a guy that is heralded as the next US sub-13.
Cheserek becoming an American citizen seems to be the best bet for the next US sub-13.
not really looked at but Jenkins just finished off by far the best xc season of his career. this is a guy who ran 13:18 and now is the second best xc guy in the NCAA. I am not saying he will run sub 13 but I wouldnt be surprised to see him pr this year. Maybe 13:15.
Saarel does not get enough sleep right now to be progressing like he "ought" to. If he ends up running professionally after college he will get the hibernation an elite endurance athlete needs. That is when we'll find out how good he can really get. Until then, it's not possible on 4-6 hours of sleep several nights a week.
Uh, Prefontaine used to get 4-6 hours of sleep several nights per week while partying instead of studying and he won XC Nationals 3 freaking times.
Leave the excuses at home, just like Saarel's kick.
but pre never broke 13

No chance.
True, Derrick, Bumbalough, Jager, Centrowitz etc will do it before.
I'm not that impressed that a 4:02 miler is going to Colorado. Who cares.
To go with the other thread, it's kind of funny how none of those guys have done it...

No-one did till about a decade after his death.
It's always fun to look back on old threads.
Shoutout Kincaid
Lot of genius prognosticators around here.
Lomong and Centro nearly made it. Sub 13 is very, very tough. No one would have predicted Kincaid would beat all those guys, and Chelimo, who did beat Kincaid, was not even on the thread.
