If this guy ran ultras and trail runs he would break all the records.

Great time for late March, but it was at 4000ft/1350m altitude.
That's gotta speed it up by about 0.3.
More likely worth a 46 flat, which is a bit behind what Rudisha did at same time of year in 2011 - 45.5

That was in 2010. Last year he was 45:82.
Still rip-snorting speed, the both of 'em. They better not dodge each other all year and run 1:45 in Moscow.

They will do what they want and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.
Actually, seeing Rudisha running a tactical race at this point would be interesting.
Rudisha has run his 400's here in Australia at the end of his winter prep, while in 1:43-1:44 shape. I'm sure he'd be in close to 44.5 shape during the peak of his season (1:41 shape).
Based off what I've seen from the other 800 types that Brother Colm has coached in the past, I'd be surprised if Rudisha is running more that 100km/60mile a week max. They normally do 50min morning runs and 30min afternoon runs on the off days and those runs start off very slow (8 min mile pace). I'm basing this off what I've seen Frederic Onyancha, Patrick Ndururi, David Kiptoo, Sammy Langat (RIP) and other do.
If you really want to see what a 1:42 guy does for training, spend $15 buck and get a copy of Nick Symmonds diary from 2012

Yearly aver is probably around 50 miles a week, with a max of 70 for a few weeks.
I don't doubt your knowledge / info about training, but i seriously doubt Rudisha would be capable of 44.5 in his wr shape. When he ran his 45.5 it was March and he ran a 1:43 low a week before or after (I can't remember which) . I doubt he was running flat out in that 1:43, as opposed to his 400. It was early season, he probably ran most of it alone from the front. Its hard for us to say how much faster he'd have been in a paced circuit race that time of year.
You may be right and I'm possibly splitting hairs, but I'd think Rudisha could probably "only" run about 44.8 - 45.1 in his peak 800 form. A few races at 1500 or 1000 might give us a better idea of what his 400 potential is.

I can be in the stands and jeer at them.
'you think caballo was doing nearly 90 miles/week ???
he still managed to run 44.26 & keep at 185 pounds off that ???
try 15 miles/week[/quote]
From the horses mouth:
"My coach started me running that season with the distance runners. Suddenly, I'm doing 15 kilometre runs, which I was surprised I found so easy, as after some physiological testing he was convinced that I could run the 800m in Montreal, too, and because of my speed and strength win it. I wasn't so sure."
"We used to train on sand hills, two times day, up to 25 kilometers a day; 15 km in morning, 10 km in evening."
