Drago said it well (fast forward to 9:17):
So did Clint Eastwood's character in The Bridges of Madison County (I can't find the clip):
Robert: The old dreams were good dreams; they didn't work out, but glad I had them.

I cant speak for anyone else but my best guess here is he means that if you have more than one egg, try to have more than one basket to keep them in. I hope this helps.
Quote of the day. Seriously someone alert the brojos
Waste of time? Not one single minute has been a waste. And now more than ever I am so appreciative of being fit and healthy - more than ever. If not for this silly little hobby of running. I feel bad for people that don't run or at least can't see the value. ;)
So I say something, really off the cuff between a few beers, about my nephews running and he posts it on this board. And you guys are are posting and discussing my stupid comment.
Unbelievable!! You guys are really something (I could say something worse but you all seem so damn sensitive you'd be talking about it for days).
Please you are better off running than worrying about something some guy said that you don't even know.
Are there actually people on here who got into running because they thought someone else would care? Or even cared if someone else cared?
Your uncle is partially correct even though he is radically over simplifying it. Running, for me, can be seen as "showing off" because I do enjoy being in good shape, looking good to others, and not being seen as a typical "fat American". However, the feeling I get after a hard ten miler or a twenty mile long run is something that people like your uncle could never know and as long as you don't go around telling people you just ran 20 miles I don't see how it can be seen as showing off.
Also, while your uncle is right that "Nobody gives a shit", it is also true that most people don't give a shit about anything you do. Most likely any hobbies your uncle has or any other hobbies you have apart from running are meaningless to others.
I think there are a lot of people who care. They just don't know.
I used to run only at night because I didn't want to be seen...but that was when I was 15
I think the Op was trolling.
I never cared what anyone said about my running. The only ones who said anything negative were the usual suspects in high school.
Of those, any I met at high school reunions later said they were proud of me.
Of the 3 worst "school bully" types two died young at their own hands, and the 3rd got up at one high school reunion and apologized to the whole class for being how he was in high school.
I think other runners know the kind of personal work, effort, focus, and courage it takes to face the pain, and all the rest to get good, to get good enough for running to be enjoyable.
