"The Hustler" belongs in the top ten.
"The Hustler" belongs in the top ten.
Oh yeah, and one I'm really surprised no one has mentioned, "City of God."
Not sure if it deserves top 10 status, however one that hasn't been mentioned and certainly deserves to be is A Clockwork Orange.
I think some people think it is overrated due to some shock value, but it is a visually stunning movie, with a philosophically interesting story.
Another fav: Manchurian Candidate.
And I'll have always have soft spots for Rocky and Planet of the Apes.

B. The Duke blows. Not a good actor, and his movies aren't good. Also not especially realistic, so you're being a dick for no reason.
Ya, you are absolutely correct. The Duke was not an actor. HE was the REAL DEAL. Thats why he shined above everyone else on the screen. He practiced what he preached. He actually lived by his own convictions. He is not only a great role model for young people, but is a philanthopist and humanitarian and wonderful human being. The way he carried himself taught other people how to mind their own business and not back to do anyone.
If there is a list of the top 20 movies ever made, atleast 10 of them are John Wayne films. He can never and will never be duplicated. He is the god of the American West. Masterpieces like Sons of Katie Elder, The Shootist, and Rio Bravo changed the world and gave the world a new platform of insight into the Wild West.
You can go watch the new age westerns that have pretty boys like Timberlake, Dicaprio, Kilmer, all you want. John Wayne is just sitting in Hell looking at you and laughing his butt off. Hes the only Western icon that has killed someone in real life.

I'll be honest: I really don't know enough about movies to have a credible opinion on what the top ten all-time are. My favorites are:
1) Casablanca
2) The Seventh Seal
3) The Sound of Music
4) Harvey
5) Roman Holiday
6) Yojimbo
7) The Tree of Life
8) Oh Brother Where Art Thou?
9) The African Queen
10) Fast Times at Ridgmont High
The Seventh Seal-I'm glad someone mentioned this movie. Just awesome.
Pardon me, but in what sense was John Wayne, a habitual drunk with a toupee, the "REAL DEAL?" What was "real" about him?

8. Howl's Moving Castle
9. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
10. Last of the Mohicans
Good list with a couple of problems.
I didn't really enjoy spirted away but its not too bad. I really enjoyed the social network but its not even close to being top ten of all time but maybe #1 of 2010. The one I'm really am upset about is 10 Last of the Mohicans. I was really disappionted with that movie. Although the soundtrack and scenery was steller, the film itself only had a couple good scenes. I really felt that the story wasn't that strong, the love story really wasn't romantic, besides Day Lewis the acting wasn't very good, and I felt that the movie needed to be much longer to match what I heard about it. It would be right with Avatar, Titanic, the Hustler, and the Artist as the most overrated movies ever.
PAPILLION
Classic McQueen & early Hoffman
Running Brave
BIRTH OF A NATION
a movie almost 100 years old, but still resonates--
D.W. Griffith: a man unencumbered by effete Ivy-League, upper West Side, sentimental notions of Political Correctness.
