French Athletics Association email:
French Olympic Committee email:
Bonjour Federation Francaise d'Athlethisme et Francaise Comite National Olympique,
Je m'appelle ****** *******.
I am writing to you to request that you do not allow Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabba to compete at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games. This is because evidence shows him physically assaulting a young person dressed as a mascot at the 2012 European Athletics Championships. Various news reports state the mascot was a young 14 year old girl. Examples of these news reports are attached at the end of this letter.
Physical violence against anyone, including defenseless young children must not be excused. The Olympic Charter (July 11, 2011) states:
"To be eligible for participation in the Olympic Games, a competitor, coach, trainer or other team official must comply with the Olympic Charter, including the conditions of eligibility established by the IOC, as well as with the rules of the IF concerned as approved by the IOC, and the competitor, coach, trainer or other team official must be entered by his NOC.
The above-noted persons must:
– respect the spirit of fair play and non violence, and behave accordingly; and
– respect and comply in all aspects with the World Anti-Doping Code."
By physically assaulting a young person it is clear that Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad has not lived up to the Olympic Charter. I again ask that you do not let this athlete compete at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Sincerely
******* ********
