Yep.
Joe Eckerly ran 5:30ish at Wisconsin in the early 2000s. I'm sure there are other performances like that -- or better -- that aren't listed.
Sorry buddy, but i did read the rules. Bottle is perfectly fine and most people say its harder to do with bottles than cans. My old college teammate found the video evidence. A true 5.25 beer mile soon to be posted. Its hilarious! Lots of guys blowing chunks and dropping out.

Bullshit. Everyone there knew Symmonds cheated, but nobody wanted to call him on it because he was the "bigshot."
To the British guy: Yes you drink more beer, but you are allowed to drink out of a glass. This makes drinking much easier.
To everyone that would "probably run fast because they can run a 4 min mile and they drink a lot": Being able to drink a lot of booze in a night, or being able to chug beer quickly, has little to no bearing on beer miling abilities. I am a super lightweight when it comes to drinking, and I'm a lousy miler (4:25), but I've run 6:10 and gone under 6:20 five times. I have a friend who is just like me that is faster (strict adherence to Kingston rules). I've also seen fast runners that are borderline alcoholics fail miserably.
The beermile is a lot like the steeplechase. Take a guy that runs a fast 3k and hurdles well, he might not run a good steeplechase. The only way to know if you are a good steepler is to do it. Also, the records on Beermile.com are for the most part self-reported, although I believe Jim Finlayson's record is a confirmed time.
