You started with the homosexual comments--what's the matter--don't like your own medicine being rammed down your throat, Hog?
You said yourself that AOY depends on the depth of the competition. Well, Edwards is winning every time out--but he still wins most of the time. And he has put forth the longest jump this year--close to his WR mark.
KK, on the other hand, has not had to deal with such depth in competition having only forced himself to perform just twice. He is not much of a competitor even for a marathoner.
For Edwards to perform as he has, he cannot take off a month at a time to recoup--but must in in shape all of the time. KK could have easily taken off at least a full month to recoup from training and to peak for just 2 races. Most likely he did do that--and when he ran his WR time--his wife was quoted as saying that he wasn't even in shape yet.
Sure--KK gets all the media publicity far surpassing anything Edwards has ever gotten in his entire career combined. So, Hog, your own opinion in this matter is greatly effected by hype--not competition, not depth of field, not what an athlete means to his sport--but hype only.
I said myself that I would seriously consider giving puase to my argument if I had a link to info about Frank Shorter having tested KK for drugs. Since I believe that drugs are prevalent in all track and field events--I feel that anyone who goes the extra mile to help clean up their sport--such as I know Paula Radcliffe and Edwards have done--then that ahtlete needs to be given extra consideration for doing well in their sport. Being the best at your event without the use of drugs I believe is extremely rare and more than warrants extra consideration of AOY. To my knowledge--KK, El G, and Tim Montgomery have not done anything at all to fight against the prevalent drug use on their sport--so all three should not be seriously considered as AOY pass Jonathan Edwards.
Even were drugs not a factor in my decision--I still feel that Jonathan Edwards should get the award. However, if Edwards was the one against drug testing and not speaking out--and KK was, then I would be for KK getting AOY and not Edwards. As it stands I think KK should get less consideration for AOY than El G, Tim Montgomery, and maybe even MM. But if he did have Shorter and crew do drug testings on him--then I WOULD change that opinion. But I would still be hesitant to put him in the same class as Jonathan Edwards--much closer though.
