you can get hot and humid almost anywhere.... stop arguing. Yesterday in central MN. 88F with 90% humidity. Today was 83 with 85% humidity and tomorrow is 79 with 100% humidity... sounds like a blast huh?

One cannot acclimate to bad air quality. The more time one spends in bad air, the worse for you.

You can train for heat and high humidity anywhere. Follow these simple steps:
1. Put on extra clothes. In cooler temps, add more clothing.
2. Go run.
All that high humidity does is reduce or eliminate evaporative cooling. Trapping heat and preventing evaporative cooling with clothing is all you need. I've heat trained for a spring marathon in below freezing temps. About three weeks is all it takes, and you don't need to (nor should you) heat train every day during that time.
Training for changing time zones is easy as well, especially for a pro athlete with a totally flexible schedule.
#1 is how Deena and Meb prepped for Athens before leaving for the resort/base camp just before the games.
#2 is correct as well. You can adjust sleep schedule to accelerate the process and get closer to Beijing time before leaving. Just do not sleep on the California to China leg! Most of the flights get in late in the afternoon.
Jason just keeps getting dumber with age. This is one of the most moronic threads in letsrun history.
Cooling also happens via respiration.

Here we go again. We can't have any serious discussion of things like "non-traditional training venues" without personal attacks on the OP.
Bangkok, as a training venue, works fine for me.
I thought about emailing Weldon to ask him to pull this entire thread, but I've decided against it, since that would be cowardly. You anonymous idiots are the ones who really bring down the message board. Maybe I have some crazy things to say, but at least I have the balls to use my own name.
There are some great things about Bangkok, but yes there are some challenges here too. It's not a perfect place, but I love my lifestyle here.

Jason it's one guy slinging accusations with multiples handles.
That's so...Letsrun 2003.
luv2run - "False. In adults passive heat does nothing to acclimate. "
Huh? So people that live in Bangkok but are non-exercisers, don't acclimate to the heat? I think your statement is probably some sort of gross oversimplification. Got a link?
My friends and I almost fell for a tourist scam in Bangkok. Don't trust people who approach you on the street, say it's a holiday, and then take you to a jewelry store. Why the f*** does the government allow that shit to go down?
I think Galen Rupp would fit in well in San Francisco.

I am just saying that there might be better strategic options out there than Houston.
first--i'm not sure if you have been to texas, but as many have pointed out, it gets to over 90% humidity almost every morning (at least in houston)
second--there is no point in going to some 3rd world shithole and risking your health. of course there's only a small chance he'd get sick or have any problems, but it makes no sense to risk it.
maybe there is a better place than houston, but it's not your home country.

Dope.....Houston during the summer is always going to be hot and humid much like a city such as Tampa. He doesn't have to try and go with wherever a heat wave is headed.
Is there anyone on this board with any cognitive skills whatsoever.
Where is Mayeroff who still hasn't addressed the fact that he hasn't a clue about the weather in Houston.
Come out from hiding ya puss.
I am just sitting here after midnight, recovering from a track workout in 90 degree and high humidity conditions. I guess that's what pussies do....repeat k's in 2:50 on a track that's hotter than a cookie sheet fresh from the oven.
You just go enjoy doing whatever it is you do out there in Houston.

How could anyone fall for that! That's the oldest one in the book. It's not illegal to offer to take someone to a shop.
The only people you CAN trust on the skreets in "The Kok" are the ones wearing the white blouses with silver buttons and black skirts. It's rather pleasant to be approached by someone with this attire.
Well yes there are less crowded places in Thailand for training and acclimatization. Sisaket is nice, and has a good track, and the Sports Complex up at Thammasat university is nice too. That's where they had the Asian Games in 1998.

Wonderful.
How about addressing the fact that your premise for this thread was completely wrong?
Or how about addressing the posters who pull this thread way off track my attacking Mayeroff personally and without due cause?
I heard Brian Sell is training in Florida until he goes out to China.

That doesn't really matter to me. Let him start a thread with a point based on reality first.
