Agree on the Ritz thing, he will never hold any ARs when his career is over and he will not have any medals. Webb will have won more US championships than him.

But the final blow came in the spring of 2013 when, twelve years to the day after Webb set the high-school record in the mile, Sydnee Scott of Gallup, New Mexico ran 3:53.39 to break it by the slimest of margins.
Can't wait to see this kid come onto the scene like a hurricane. What high school is that? Gallup?
The real tests for these predictions for 2010 - 2012 are these ones...

Ryan Hall became the first American-born runner under 2:06 in the marathon, Galen Rupp became the first American under 27 in the 10k and the first American Olympic medalist in that event in fourty-eight years, and Josh Rohatinsky, Matt Tegenkamp, and Lopez Lamong also took hardware home in the 2012 Olympics.
So far I give him a point for Hall, wind or no wind, he was the first sun 2:06, then 1/2 a point for Rupp in the 10k. Now if at least two of Rupp, Rohatinsky, Tegenkamp or Lomong get a medal at the 2012 Olympics, then I reckon we should put all our money on Dubai getting the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.
It's got to be a better bet than taking financial advice from Flagpole or peeps.
that should be *sub* 2:06...
Who is Josh Rohatinsky?

And you know nothing about women.
looks like this is coming true after all :(
Bump for the Trials. Looks like Webb will at least make the finals?
This might actually come true. Even if USATF decides to let him into the 5,000m I just can't see him getting top 3 with the depth we have now. I'm not too confident Ritz will make the team in the 5 or 10k either.
"Galen Rupp became the first American under 27 in the 10k and the first American Olympic medalist in that event in fourty-eight years"
Silver!
What is that quote from? Chris Solinsky was the first American under 27 mins... Hell, the first white guy.
Quote is from opening post of the thread. Solinsky was 26:59 in race where he benefited from having Rupp do most of the pacing. It was Rupp who really punched into sub-27 with his 26:48.
His predictions were accurate for the most part! And Bernie Montoya might actually have a SLIM chance to run 3:53 or at least hopefully break 4 in the mile.

"the three-time olympian Ritzehnein"
Ritz got 3rd at 2012 Trials and got the standard he didn't have in same race as well, thus getting the 3rd trip to Olympics as OP of this thread predicted. The opening post (2008) was also right about Ritz having gone on to equal Webb, which he pretty much did with his 5k AR, and surpass him, which he did with his World Half-Marathon bronze medal, both in 2009.
From Ritz's Runnersworld interview:
"Mo and Galen have such great kicks. If the others let things go slow, they'll be handing them the medals."
Last lap of London 10k:

Ritz has also talked of going into coaching after he is done running, possibly replacing Salazar, which would be another point for the OP since he implied that Webb's peers (Hall and Ritz being directly so) would be moving into such positions.
OP of thread:
"While his peers paved the way for olympic medals and American records, and then graduated to positions as distance-running's ruling class of coaches and commentators"
Was Ritz's prediction that a slow 10k pace would hand Farah and Rupp the medals a foreshadowing of how effective and desired he will be as a commentator?
"Manzano was one of the many American atheletes who followed in Webb's footsteps, only to surpass him and outshadow his previous accomplishments."
Manzano, Silver in 1500m, 2012 Olympics. "One of many" including Centro who in 4th would gotten Bronze if Manzano removed from the race, and who got WC Bronze in the 1500m last year.
"Josh Rohatinsky, Matt Tegenkamp, and Lopez Lamong also took hardware home in the 2012 Olympics"
Wrong on these though.

Lopez Lomong, made it out of his heat to the final with a 13:26.16, so that part could still happen. Heck, I'd have bet on Lomong medaling before Manzano getting Silver.
this is by far one of the most brilliant things in the history of letsrun.
only missed badly on Rohatinsky, Tegenkamp not a bad guess given that he was 4th at 07 worlds in the 5k.
got a good chuckle out of hs runner "Sydnee Scott" breaking Webb's record.
Bump for the homepage article on Webb's summer of 2007.
