Well there could very well be other reasons for the split that aren't being reported, but as it stands all those news reports that have been linked to on this thread have done a really good job of painting Wariner as the bad guy.
I'd like to hear his and Michael Johnson's statements, if and when they come out with them.

wariner sucks wrote:OMG!!1!1! You are so right... in fact why doesn't he jump up to the marathon with that speed. After all, everyone knows the longer the race the more it matters.
The fact is he has a chance to be one of the all time best at his events... why can't you all just appreciate greatness, even if it is in an event you couldn't even imagine running competively
was that an element of satire?
serious question.
I am not sure if you were asking me, but I'll answer anyway. Yes, there was most definitely an "element of satire" in what I wrote since A) lots of people have suggested in the past that Warniner try the 800 someday and lots of other people on here seem to get pretty angry about that suggestion, and B) no, I don't actually think that being the best in the world and one of the best ever in the 400 is not "worthwhile". Obviously that was a joke.
(having said all that, I would really like to see Wariner try the 800 someday. I like when people, like Geb for instance, really push their limits outside their comfort events and challenge themselves like that, and i think Wariner would run a hell of an 800 with a middle distance coach pushing him. Also, the 800 depth is quite weak these days, and a 1:44 would put him right in the mix of the best in the world. But if he has no interest, he has no interest, and it will still be great to see him continue to run sub 44's like he is jogging in the park)

Merrit's coach is a great coach...But he hasn't done the things with Merrit that Hart has done with Warnier..Merrit was a 45.7 400 runner in high school...Warnier was only a 48.7 high school 400 guy...he went to Baylor to play football and decided to focus on track instead..can you imagine if he hadn't we would all be over Merrit instead of Warnier..Warnier is a true great but before its all said and done Merrit could be better
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I recall being told one time that Wariner ran sub 21 in the 200 in HS. Something like 20.70...???
Jeremy Wariner ran 45.57 for 400m and 20.41 wind aided for 200m in high school.
LeShawin Merrit ran 45.25 and 20.72. So they were very similar coming out of H.S.
I think the 20.41 makes Wariner the superior high schooler. That kind of raw foot speed coupled with Hart's endurance style of training = mad fast 400m runner.
Never forget all the successful Baylor 400m guys had killer 200 times before they got to be great 400m runners at Baylor. At almost every other school in the country Wariner would have been a 200 specialist.
YES! Now Wariner will NEVER get the WR! I love it...
The guy is an abomination.
