Why do runners and athletes continue to live in Chicago? I was there for 4 years after college and it was the worst place to train. Finally had enough and moved to find a more suitable climate and place for training.
No serious competitive training groups in Chicago. (The couple of running clubs and groups would like to make you think they are competitive)There is CARA (chicago area runners association) and the CARA race circuit competition that they have every year but that's more for recreational runners.
You'll often see the same runners pr pack of guys run every single f'ing day run on the lakefront; always doing the same route week after week thinking they are more important than they really are. The lakefront and the suburban trails (palos, waterfall, bull frog, etc.) get boring and old very quickly. Not enough trails or other options to run.
Chicago peeps continue to defend their city as a great place to run but it's not.
You post is long on generalities and short on specifics. Where did you live in Chicago? With whom did you train? Universal Sole? Fleet Feet? Where do you live now?
