Y'all need to learn how to read a log. Pop quiz. For example a person says they do their runs at 7:00 pace for a basic easy 10 mile run, do they always run around 7:00 pace from beginning to end or does it mean they run 7:30, 7:20, 7:10, 7:00, 6:50, 6:50, 6:40, 6:30, 6:20, 6:00. In my log, both are 7 min pace runs because either run will probably be the same effort based on how I feel. Also, does it mean actual pace or "effort" if the run was taken on a flat as opposed to a hilly or offroad course. Y'all miss the big picture. Taking a watch out on every little run and analyzing the pace is not what leads to improved racing times. Higher mileage (I don't know how high), training-specific workouts, and consistency. The speed of the right pace (which should be determined by feel) on easy runs is a result of the other elements, not the cause thereof. When I am doing regular workouts, I have found some of my runs are in the 7:30 range on hilly courses. I have only been able to run mileage for the last few weeks owing to injury and I find my runs are now around 6:30 pace at the same effort (on flat courses). I don't care, I just run on feel. I don't consider those runs any "better" than the slower runs that feel the same. Many of these 6:30 pace runs are easier in the context of no-workouts than some of those 7:30 pace runs.
