Just wondering: Why do adults ask for autographs? I never understood this. To prove you met the celebrity? Because you have nothing else to say to them? It strikes me as an odd way to interact with another person.
My sister met Vince Vaughan and had her picture taken with him.

No idea why people do.. I knew Rusty Staub thru the restaurant business we frequented each others places blah blah One night I'm with a group at his Rib Joint on Third Ave. I introduced him around and we did quick catch-up chat. Later one of the people at my table asked me if I had an extra Rusty autograph....thrown for a loop I say why would I want his autograph that's silly?? but it started me thinking. He passed and I said "Rusty do you give out autographs?" "Too a fault" he chuckled.
When the check came I call him over, hand him a pen and point to the bottom of the guestcheck "Would you sign that "Compliments of Rusty Staub"
I thought he would die laughing !!
One New Yorker take on cleb autographs.
BTW He did!

Because there are other adults that will pay a lot of money for those autographs. We never got them to make money though. It is just something my mom likes to collect.

A couple of years ago, I was at the Prefontaine Inv. with my daughter. As we were leaving, I saw Don Quarrie (a favorite of mine from the 70s) and asked him to take a picture with my daughter. He says she should take a pciture with this other man (who I didn't recognize at the time) and I said okay becasue it would have been awkward to say no. After I got the pictures developed I realized the guy was Mo Greene. Pretty cool picture of my daughter and a gold medalist.
Another time, I took my daughter to watch a criterium that was being sponsored by (the then unknown cancer patient) Lance Armstrong. He was signing autographs and so on. My 6 year old daughter still has that picture of the not-quite -yet, but soon-to-be 7x TdF winner.
Finally, my daughter got pictures taken with El G and Marion Jones at the Prefontiane meet where El G went 3:49.

TxRunnergirl-
so far i think you have the coolest person on your list: Jimmy Stewart. so far, no one has really come close to that in my opinion. that guy is an American hero! how'd you meet him?
i go to school in Indiana, PA and that is his hometown. I am sad to say that I had never heard about him until i came here. But I have learned so much about his success. There is so much stuff named after him here including a museum and an airport. -jorge
and a library too.
I think I saw the dad from 90210 at the 7/11 the other day. Does that count?
My cousin is a exec at GM so during the superbowl I got to meet the majoirty of the ESPN and NFL tv staff during the superbowl.

Bo Schembechler - He goes to my church
Lloyd Carr - Same as Bo
Verne Troyer aka Mini Me - met him at Michigan football game
Stever Yzerman
Tayshaun Prince - saw him in Ann Arbor

Kirk Herbstreit - same as above

Ok, it's not me, but my mom was head of a social services agency and picked up OJ Simpson at the airport and drove him to her agency where he was doing community service for domestic abuse (this was before the whole stabbing, car chase, etc.) by talking to the kids about staying in school and working hard. The kids knew him from The Naked Gun movies but not football. Apparently he was a very nice and charming guy when he wanted to be.
I met Ed Begley Jr of St Elsewhere once.
txRUNNERgirl,
I don't mean this in any way other than fact gathering, but are you a famous person stalker or something? How the hell does someone meet all those famous people? I'm assuming you don't mean you saw they from a distance in a stadium but you actually briefly spoke to them with introductions, shook their hands, etc.
Maybe it's all about interest. There aren't too many famous people I'd work too hard to go meet.
No I'm not a stalker. As I mentioned before, my mom likes collecting autographs, so she would find out about signings and we'd go. As for most of the baseball players, she used to be a member of the Texas Rangers Womens Club, which are the ladies who do stuff like hand out bobbleheads, lunchboxes, and other memorabilia to the kids at the games.

In defence of txRUNNERgirl; a lot of people don't recognise famous people when they see them. I'm not even trying but I, probably like RUNNERgirl, have strong facial recognition abilities! True, most people don't care or couldn't be bothered. I ran past Eugene Levy on a run last week and recognised him right away. I went to a starbucks in Malibu after a track workout at Pepperdine three years ago. I saw Ryan O'Neil, Gary Busey and Heather Graham. Was on the same flight as Jack Palance once. Met Mr. T. in a bar. I just realized my list won't be recognised by anyone under 35.
I usually wouldn't say anything but I met Ken Thomson, 9th richest man in the world before he passed away and got my picture with him. Same with when I met Bill Rogers at Boston at the after party; got my picture with him. He is very cool. Bumped into Salazar in 2002 in Boston and ran a couple miles with him along Charles river. Very nice guy.
MOst of the time I would do nothing. My girlfriend got Meb's autograph because she happened to have that months Runners WOrld with him on the cover at the pool where he was. But I bet most guys getting a drink at a fountain for example wouldn't recognise Salazar running by or Rogers in a bar.
My buddies met Tom cruise at the premiere for the Prefontaine movie he made. THey told him they were runners and Cruise said he could have used them because the skinny hollywood guys were useless since they were only skinny from coffee and smoking not running! THey said he was very cool and talked for like 15 minutes about running and Prefontaine.

Wow, that must have been a blast...snore.....
Was there anuthing more to the conversation than sports? Were Scott, Van Pelt, and Wingo in the coner exchanging witty remarks such as "Boo Yah" and "Cool like the other side of the pillow" ad nauseum? Let me guess, Irvin was in the john snorting coke from a hooker's butt?
