Honest question -- where is this coming from? She has 1.4 million IG followers, is a beloved Olympic champion, has huge endorsement deals, etc.
She's either 1) so consumed by social media that she's angry/so put off by seeing any negative comments that she can't rationalize all the support she does have or 2) this is an intentional marketing ploy to sell more books/make her more sympathetic & valuable.
I hate buzzwords. Just say how you feel. I don't think there is some mass movement to "cancel" her. I think some people just might not share her religious views. Most can separate that out & still be a fan so, again, I'm asking where is the cancelling? When you say that you make it sound like that's the overwhelming opinion. It's not.
Obv her book didn't sell as well as the bible, so shes P|SSED
No, don’t care and in fact, I’m an atheist but liked Marisa Howard’s message at the trials about how God would have been there for her even if she was last. (I paraphrase.)
Wild that specifically Americans are so into God/religion and also have the worst math/science/reading test scores in the western world. Remember, Sydney didn’t finish college. Not that she needed to, of course. You just never see a genius being so into God, do you?
"God does not play dice with the universe"
- Albert Einstein
In reference to his disdain towards the theory of quantum mechanics you fool
what exactly is the difference between religion and conspiracy theories? why is it okay for us to look down upon conspiracy theorists but need to stay quiet when someone is spouting about some man in the sky?
Some conspiracy theories have significantly shaped Western culture, for better or worse, more than their peers.
Did any of you actually watch the short video? Clearly some religious interviewer asked her a provocative/leading question about being "cancelled" for her beliefs, and Syd gave the most benign answer you could expect.
Name calling is a sign of someone without anything intelligent to say. Come back when you're interested in an actual discussion.
Why? You clearly ARE a bigot just own it. You are also completely ignorant of what goes on in schools. How should I engage with someone like you that thinks LGBTQ people and diversity is bad and that we don't teach academics?
Lots of misunderstanding about Christian beliefs being thrown around in here, particularly about what athletes mean when they thank God for their performance. The Christian does not believe that God is rewarding their faith with special little favors of performance.
"If there was any idea of a sort of bargain - any idea that we could perform our side of the contract and thus put God in our debt so that it was up to Him, in mere justice, to perform his side - that has to be wiped out.
I think every one who has some vague belief in God, until he becomes a Christian, has the idea of an exam, or of a bargain in his mind. The first result of real Christianity is to blow that idea to bits...Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already." - C.S. Lewis
Like many of you I was an atheist for many years. Another C.S. Lewis quote that comes to mind when thinking about where I was: "Christianity has nothing (as far as I know) to say to people who do not know they have anything to repent of and who do not feel that they need any forgiveness."
