Day-um what a race! Cole winning it all isn't a monster surprise, although it's not what I picked (and probably not the majority choice). I think Jakob did what he needed to do; i.e., it wasn't stupid by any means. His chances were lower if he hadn't pushed it, and I can't be the only one who thinks that if he had his own rabbit for 3 laps, he'd beat this field 9 times out of 10. But these guys are close enough to him that there was really no way for him to break them. Put simply, he might be the fastest when paced, but he's clearly not the best head-to-head.
Barring a fall, I think Cole might have won this thing off of any pace. I mean, hell, he outkicked them off a 3:27-8 pace! It would have been even better odds for him off a slower pace. BTW, I think Hobbs Kessler is the future and the most talented of all. He has the potential to be the Seb Coe of this era. If he can get a bigger base and can stay healthy, he can be a superstar of the 8/15.
