After watching the contact over a dozen times, I think it is even more ridiculous that Kipyegon was disqualified.
I watched the race live and was surprised there was any DQ. After watching the replay a couple times, it seemed like it might be reasonable to DQ Kipyegon because she clearly grabbed Tsegay's arm - not just jostling but a clear grab.
BUT, after watching the replay several more times, it became clear that Kipyegon really had no choice - Tsegay was literally forcing Kipyegon off the track and with Tsegay's wide arm swing it looks like Tsegay hit the center of Kipyegon 's bib with her hand and then was slow to move her arm away because it was blocked by Kipyegon 's body.
Truly a terrible call. There is no need for officials to interfere with the results. My experience is the more officials there are the more likely there is to be bad calls and unnecessary interference in the results - the judges want to justify their pay.
Hopefully Kipyegon is reinstated on appeal a d the judges who made this terrible call are fired and not given a pay check.
Olympic races and all races should be about the athletes and not the officials.
