I think Ollie H will be just fine. It is extremely difficult to repair an adductor tear. he can build up his fitness and should be on the circuit for a while.
There was a lot of criticism of the repechage rounds when they announced it, but that was very entertaining and high-stakes. Very preferable to the small-q system where I would just be screaming at heat 3 to go out faster.
Yep. I've always felt that championships should be about racing, not time trialing, meaning that it should all be about place rather than time. I never loved the "q" system for that reason, but it seemed necessary to account for the fact that heats could be unevenly stacked.
I think the repechage is actually a much better system. It gives people who might have been in a tougher heat a chance to advance, but requires you to race your way in and earn it by beating people rather than adding the time trial element that the "q" system adds.

I like guys racing but Olli has been doing a lot of racing/traveling. I don’t think he’s worried much about the injury. He took a break in June but otherwise he’s operating as if fully healthy.
This is like the wild card, division, conference playoffs to get to the final. These folks just did the same to get to their final. Go watch some Joey S vids and do better.
Did Riva tank his 1st rd heat? PBs today with an 3:32.8 after 14th and 3:41.9 yesterday. Maybe a mid-race decision.
If he did he was smart - if not leveraging the system a little. Almost as if he never even contemplated making it in a race other than the repecharge huh ;)
This will be the issue moving forwards - protecting the integrity of this race. You really want to avoid a situation where guys are busting it for a spots in the first round and just missing out, only to face guys who never even intended to make it automatically from the first round and have planned to pick off fatigued bodies in the RC round.

Hopefully this will even out once the repechage guys get that extra round in their legs.
I thought that would be the right strategy for some people. I'd rather run fresh against a field that does not have the Norwegians, Americans, Kenyans, etc. for three positions than run against a top field for 6 positions. Plus, going all out two days in a row means you have no chance come the semis.

Olli looked pretty good winning London DL in 3:49 low two weeks ago. His first 800 yesterday and today looked very much like his first 800 in London - while he closed well in London - he had very little run left down the stretches in Paris.
Australian selections are often done to select young runners with potential. Cameron Myers should have replaced Stewie who has a great history but is on the downhill leg for 1500M. He could have focussed on the 5000M although it looks like he has little chance of progressing now. Olie must have stuffed his peaking training so that is also on OTC. Certainly good enough to make the final easily when in form. Adam Spencer had to be selected after winning the Australian Champs but ran up to expectations here and should not be disappointed. Keep expecting him to start singing "Someone you loved" by Lewis Capaldi.
I really don't see the point of this versus the usual time qualifiers. Just adds one more race for the people in these.
My big surprise was Ollie and Stewie. First, that they both repeated the stupid tactics that put them in this round, and, second, that they both just folded so badly. Looie was barely moving the last 200m.
