Fake populism? Look at this thread for evidence of why people are fed up with a platform of "we are better than you, if you don't vote for us, you are trash." The sanctimony and constant condescension from the left rightly puts off the average American. I'm under no illusions about Trump, but at least he and his base aren't constantly demeaning normal people for being normal. Yes, I know that Trump demeans some people.
TLDR: To the average American voter, leftist politicians and their vocal supporters (on everyone's social media) are Shooter McGavin, while Trump and his sometimes over-the-top supporters are Happy Gilmore (imperfect and sometimes weird, but way closer to the everyman).
Trump’s populism is real in the sense that his followers perceive him as someone who cares about them and is going to fight the establishment on their behalf. But it’s all fake because it’s built on the false premise that he is similar to the everyman.
This is a guy who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His entire life has been spent in elite wealthy circles. He is a con artist, and his ability to convince his followers that he’s like them and cares about them has got to be one of the biggest con jobs in American history.
Americans are well aware that Trump is a billionaire who started off as a millionaire. Americans are well aware of the many firings and throwing-under-the-busings of former Trump admin officials. Trump has been a very public figure for a very long time. The average American knows that the true feelings of the left hold them in utter disdain.
Apparently some people hold this "better than you" attitude so closely that they just can't help it. It leaks out every once in a while even with the national-level politicians ("deplorables," "bitter clingers," etc.) but is constantly evident in online and even everyday discourse with leftists now (most people, including Democrats, were appalled by the shooting at the Trump rally, but you still had leftists, even on this board, wishing or justifying murder of Trump AND people at the rally).
The Democrats have a disdain problem, and they're lucky the Republicans haven't figured out that a "they hate you" campaign commercial would strike a nerve. Unfortunately, the disdain problem is a huge blind spot for the Democrats because it's real disdain. Most donors and staffers aren't going to have very many (if any) working class friends and they are driving the narrative.

1. You have misguided people of just about any political persuasion or demographic category who will voice such contemptible views. And I don’t think “Trump seems to cheer violence directed at others” is a reasonable defense for anyone else to make light of violence. Fortunately, as you note, the vast majority of people are appalled by that; they abhor violence; and they are glad that Trump is safe, that nobody carted Pelosi out of the Capitol in zip ties, etc.
2. Some of the disdain from the Left is readily apparent and usually carries greater appearance of smugness. But there is plenty of disdain on the Right for certain groups of hard-working, law-abiding citizens; their public remarks about “real America” aren’t merely a rebuke to out-of-touch Beltway elites and the like (even though there are times the remark is forcefully intended primarily as that). And if you’d try to assert that Trump feels something other than disdain for most of his working-class, and even firmly middle-class, followers as people, that’s laughable. I’d be very willing to bet that he loves their adoration, he likes being the head of a movement, and he loves that their support grants him power.
Anyone seriously asking this question must live in a bubble of Trump supporters.
Says the bubble dwelling leftist without even a hint of self-awareness.
lol.
The Democrats threw Joe under the bus because he couldn't win the election.
Harris polls even worse than Biden.
Much like you were dumbfounded when you found out for the very first time that Biden was old and senile on debate night you will be equally shocked and amazed to discover that Harris is dumb and has the charisma of a we fart.

Trump lives rent free in your tiny mind.
It's absolutely hysterical that you can't go 30 seconds without thinking about the guy and flying into a rage.

Addressing your points:
1. Yes, there are out there people who justify violence on all parts of the political spectrum. However, the justification of violence is heavily, heavily on the left. I consider myself a pretty "average" American in a lot of ways, and I know this because I'm shocked by it whenever I see it and pay attention to it. There just aren't a lot of people in the center and on the right who seriously talk like this. There is a small but significant (and vocal) minority of the left who not only support political violence but are apparently happy to try to persuade others as well.
2. Maybe I'm not expressing this well. I (and I think most average Americans) don't think Trump particularly takes an interest in me. However, I'm not looking for a friend. That's different than trying to act like you're in a club of super-smart people and everyone who doesn't go along with you is a piece of garbage.
I think what you are getting at (I could be wrong here) with the "real American" thing is what the left calls a "dog whistle" that largely doesn't exist. There aren't a ton of racists, etc. running around. There are a ton of people that are tired of people telling them that they are hateful if they don't support 13 year olds making life-altering decisions about their bodies based on gender-ideology. So I guess if someone says that forcing that garbage down regular people's throats is "un-American" I know what they're talking about from that perspective.

She may very well. Is that a prerequisite for a candidate in this race?

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump recently called the Bible his "favorite book" while on the campaign trail, but he apparently doesn't want to discuss it in interviews.
Trump was asked to name "one or two of your most favorite Bible verses" during an interview on Bloomberg's television show "With All Due Respect" Wednesday. He wouldn't answer the question.
Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump attends a news conference regarding issues on undocumented immigrants in Beverly Hills, California. Thomson Reuters "I wouldn't want to get into it because to me that's very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible, it's very personal, so I don't want to get into verses," Trump said, adding, "The Bible means a lot to me, but I don't want to get into specifics."
Later in the interview, host John Heilemann asked Trump if he was "an Old Testament guy or a New Testament guy."
"Probably equal," Trump said.

(a year later)
"Two Corinthians, right? 3:17, that's the whole ballgame," Trump said. "Where the spirit of the Lord, right...there is liberty. Here, there is liberty...Liberty University, but it is so true. You know when I think, and that's really - is that the one? Is that the one you like?"
judging by the fear mongering and general hysteria it appears that plenty of republicans think she can win.
The betting site still has Trump leading. I think it’s a 60/35 split leaning toward Trump now. On the other hand, Harris is smart to use her record as a prosecutor against Trump as a convicted criminal. I believe the odds will be 55/45 tilting towards Harris when the emotions settle down.
It will be a choice between Joker versus Batman. Joker is cool, but he is still a criminal who is good at destruction rather than building or maintaining a society.

Your number one is the most rediculus thing I’ve ever read. Just look at how the right talks about J6. They praise the violence as acts of patriots. Go on Fox News and read the comment sections. You cant go two or three deep before someone on their starts talking about the next civil war if they lose. A few weirdos talking about wishing Trump had gotten shot is nothing compared to the talk about the next civil war by the right if they lose. Get out of here with your fake outrage. Trump is where he is at because of his actions and him turning away a huge amount of voters because he does not have broad appeal. Republicans should have won this election by a landslide but they chose the one candidate that can be beat,
