Dumbest post ever. Saying you have no idea what her job is means she may be a doctor or a prostitute or a garbage collector. I have a good idea what her job is. If you don't, then don't comment. You sound ridiculous.
A waste of talent, she absolutely has to leave the Curse Sea group.
No no no. Mu achieved everything except the world record. In no world is that a waste of talent. If she wants to keep running, fine. If she wants to quit, I think she should. I got a lot of joy watching her run the table and there's nothing more she can do except try to do it again. There's no obligation. She should do what she wants.
Athing is SO YOUNG, guys. She has also been running at a high level since childhood. Everyone has a rough moment. It’s probably a good thing. You grow through what you go through. We were super lucky to watch her dominate when she did, and if we’re lucky we’ll watch it again. There’s plenty of time! I think she looked really tentative in the race yesterday, probably afraid to fall again. My guess is the mental load took away her ability to run free and maintain on the last lap. But it’s definitely a good thing she got back on the horse. Hopefully she has a good sports psych in her corner. And yes, this thread is poison lol.
Kersee wasted a year with that silly 1500 training, possibly spurred on by LRC fanboys who thought Mu could do anything. Any time an LRC poster says a runner should move up or down, they should be banned for life.
That being said (heehee) why doesn't Kersee move her back to the 400? Less time to think, stays in her lane so no worry about tripping, just get in the blocks and run like hell for a lap.
But she broke the American record that year so how is that a waste? It literally made her faster.
I'm realizing now that a lot of the decisions Kersee made are probably because Mu is in a terrible headspace. She was probably really tired of the 800 and Kersee thought the 1500 might provide a new challenge for her to start enjoying running again.
A winning time of 1:58.19 is not a B level performance just because it is not quite good enough to win every diamond league or make it to the top of the podium. How many US woman are faster this year?
every runner at the london diamond league meet today ran faster than that.

Yes, but she had a rough moment at a critical point, at the year of the games when she may be most in her prime and when teh Oly's were in front of a live crowd in a city that is the capital of fashion, a core interest of hers. This will be psychologically destructive potentially -- she has to be the relief pitcher who lets the homer he just gave up be in the past. Maybe finding other ways to get some pleasure out of this -- new city she likes, etc., will be helpful in that.
Athing Mu didn't look like she wanted to be at this meet. She looked grumpy and sad before it started, and gave up in the last 100m.
I don't know if she's going to get her passion for running back.
I think she will. I just think her main problem is that it's just gonna require waiting another 4 years to get her glory and be in the spotlight again.

I’ve been among those unhappy with Mu not racing and seeming to take her talents a bit for granted, but I think we all need to cut her a break. She’s obviously been struggling mentally and watching her fade in this race after trying to run a hard pace was painful. I for one will be rooting for her to have a quiet off season and come back strong indoors.
It's not uncommon to see an High school or college XC athlete slack off over the summer and then try to train at the peak fitness level they were at the previous year and get hurt a few weeks into the season.
High school and college XC athlete behavior has nothing to do with an established pro like Mu.
A poster stated that Mu didn’t train hard as if it’s a fact. I want to know if they have sources for their claim or if they’re just spouting off nonsense. I suspect it’s the latter.
Sources for the statement that Mu didn't train as hard:
2023 - 1:54
2024 - 1:58 and most recently a 2:00 getting 5th at a mediocre meet

No, no, no. Moving her up to the 1500 has Kersee written all over it. He uses women for his ego. Note he doesn't train men because they wouldn't put up with a coach telling them what to run. And how did that work out? The residual effects of 1) higher training volume to run a mile and 2) the amount of 800 training specific/time lost was definitely adverse.
She is done. It’s a long way to the next OG. Her career is looking more like Braziers or Wariners - on top and then fell off a cliff either due to injury, mental issues or lack of care.
While I also think she is done, if she can't come back her career is not like Jeremy Wariner's who won 3 golds and a silver over 2 Olympics and 5 golds and a silver over 3 World Championships. Mu has 2 golds in 1 Olympics and 1 gold and a bronze over 2 World Championships.
I feel like this is exactly what she needs. Drag herself to races even if she hates it, go through the pain of losing for awhile, and let the haters do their absolute worst. If she keeps this up, she will wake up one day and realize that she is tougher than she has ever been and ready to re-enter her prime.
