Ok, it's been said before but I need to hammer home the reality.
He's a HIGH SCHOOL coach who's relatively short tenure included two extremely talented families totaling 5 athletes. Then he went to UCLA and crapped out.
The book cover IS ridiculous. This isn't some legend with decades and decades of experience. he coached a high school team for about six or seven years. He obviously thinks ridiculously highly of himself...
Marc Bloom published a book about FM some years ago, and honestly that was a story worth reading. Decades of championships with different sets of athletes. I read the book and actually found some of the coaching practices to be problematic and when you read between the lines, several of the girls had eating issues as a result of their training philosophies.
Sean Brosnan announces his book about Newbury Park? I’m sure the cover will feature a great shot of the Newbury Park runn— Nevermind. It’s a giant photo of Sean Brosnan
It’s an epic cover. Brosnan is the writer with his vision and the picture in the subclasses has the top 5 from 2021. AKA the best team in HS history. I don’t think people get success. Some people are movers and shakers in this world we live in. I love that Brosnan doesn’t give a flying damn what people say. There is great things that happen to people that are bold and do their thing. We need more Sean Brosnan’s in this world and less negativity.
You'll never understand why he wins over and over if you say stuff like that. I f@cking love the cover.

FM is boring. Can’t wait to read the NP book. I’ve honestly been hoping this was real for a while now.

I'm interested to hear about his success in life for the 40+ years outside of the years the Youngs and Sahlmans were on the team. When did all this winning, over and over happen? From what I can tell, there isn't anything in his life before NP that anyone would call real success and there hasn't been anything since anyone would call real success. Did he have any previous coaching success? Any real personal running success? Professional success? If you view his overall life as very successful, I'm not sure how much real success you've been around.
How Newbury Park became the greatest High School team in history:
Written by: Sean Brosnan , Chris Lear , Andrew Greif
This dude does not get renewed to UCLA’s broken program then he goes on to sell a script to a studio to make some $ and he is now coming out with a book about Newbury Park’s legendary era. I absolutely freaking love this. Im also hearing it’s not just a rumor that Brosnan will be with a pro group in the fall.
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.
What script did he sell? Has this been verified? I know there is an actor/writer named Sean Brosnan. Is this a case of mistaken identity?

I just heard it was nothing to do with running. I’m in LA and I actually heard it from a non running friend. Some steaming show or series he sold. That’s all I know. Maybe that explains his world travels. If the man goes to Paris for the Olympics something is definitely up.

Genuinely curious about this take. FM was an absolute phenomenon over 13 years while newbury park succeeded largely on the backs of two talented families. How is FM boring?

Take the top two families out of every team and it’s less attractive. And Newbury Park has girls national records and many boys national records. They had top athletes that killed it from multiple families. It’s a weak argument usually from lazy coaches and disgruntled people. Newbury Park was the best team the US has ever seen and completely dominated 2019,2020,201,2022.

Truly amazing to watch
This is a bad take and not accurate. If you take the top two families from Walt Lange's, Doug Soles', FM, York, etc, etc, they are still consistently dominant programs. Take the Youngs and Sahlmans away and you have a solid, state contending team that isn't competitive nationally. They would look very similar to a half dozen or so solid
teams in CA. It was only 4 years. He hasn't shown he can have real success without them. It was truly amazing to watch, but the bulk of the credit belongs with the Youngs and Sahlmans.
Brosnan took NPHS from nothing to NXN Champs in just 4 seasons. Nico was a Freshman when Brosnan started. On that first NXN Championship Team (2019), Nico was #1 on the Team and Colin #3. What Brosnan did with the ENTIRE TEAM (not just two members of two families) was UNPRECEDENTED, and I can’t wait to read about the psychology behind what he created…

One of the best coaches in the US with proven success. He had a nice and beautiful wife and is genuinely a nice guy. He made great investments years ago and it set him up financially today. He’s apparently coaching this coming fall and has been making moremoney then most people with his businesses and investments. However , money doesn’t define Someone but you seem to think so.

Where did I mention money? How are you aware of his financial portfolio by the way?

So, take away the Youngs and Sahlmans and what would you have had? Like I said, a state level competitive team. You're telling me what other kids on the team ran was unprecedented?
I LOVE the book cover! I hear that main designer of the cover was Robert Fisher, the same genius who created that iconic NIRVANA album cover with the baby in the water. The imagery and symbolism are sensational, along with the design. There’s Brosnan, in black and white, looking out over his NPHS athletes—the five who beat the National Record team average by 46 seconds—as a color reflection. The interpretation is that Coach Brosnan is in black and white—out of the spotlight as coaches are—directing his Team, which takes the lion’s share of the glory for their accomplishments (hence the color).
I can’t imagine a better, more well-thought out cover. A masterpiece for sure!

It’s self-published, but not Amazon for the Hardcover. I’ll bet that it makes The NY Times Nonfiction Bestseller list. With a Brosnan—Lear—Greif Teamup, how could it not?

He was chasing the dream without much success into his 40s. He was long known as the guy who would exaggerate his accomplishments and wanted to be elite so bad. He was a tag along.
He found his niche with high school coaching. And did a great job. He loves the sport. He also loves himself a lot.
