Kerr did kick in the final straight and pulled away from Jakob. But in any case, he finished stronger than Jakob - and won.
BTW, the 1500 final at Tokyo was Snell's 6th race in 9 days. He won both the 800 and the 1500 (in which he completely buried the field). That wasn't enough for you? Do you really understand sport at this level?
Kerr had more left in the tank than Jakob also on the home straight. But he didn’t kick /shift pace like f.ex Snell did in OG 1964 (and in his mile)…
The bowerman mile did not dissapoint. 3.45 for a British Record for josh kerr. To win the diamond league in hayward field; prefontaine classic in eugene oreg...

No, it wasn’t enough for me! Snell was a stellar runner also in the 1500m/mile, and it irritates me that he is listed with a 3.37 pb. But as I said: Easy for me to say in hinsight…
He normally peaks at the right time - it’s even more important this year. He knows what he’s doing - just because we all want to see interesting races doesn’t mean they have to change their plan.
Jakob could be over-racing. He loves to race clearly but is he timing his peak correctly? Athletes can’t stay in PB shape for months. It’s no coincidence he gets ‘ill’ for the big championships.
Maybe he’ll pull it off but his strategy is more risky than Kerr’s. Especially when coming back from injury.
Last year, Jakob ran 7:54 in the 2 mile at the beginning of June and 4:44 in the 2k in September. He was in world record shape for months. He ran his first 3:27 in June and then ran 3:43/7:23 on back to back days in September. Kerr is not good enough to peak for months, which is okay. But do not assume that just because Kerr can’t do it, Jakob can’t when we have proof that he can.

In his era, the mile was the more common event and more prestigious outside the Olympics. He only ran the 1500 at Tokyo and nowhere else. He never tried to take the 1500 record.
Jakob was in PB shape for months. Getting a sore throat is a result of external factors, not internal. But he is besides the point. Kerr does not get to call himself the best 1500m runner in the world. He has a spotty track record in world and olympic finals and even moreso in regular season races. I support runners who compete more and accept the truth rather than a guy who pretends he is the best and exudes fake confidence but is really not that good relatively speaking.
If he wins the olympic 1500m, then I think it's fair to call him the best in the world. If he doesn't win the olympics, I'm not so sure he would claim that he's the best. Getting bent out of shape pre maturely and this will sort itself out.
If he wins the Olympics then I will call him the best in the world, because then it will show consistency in winning global championships which is very important. The problem is he is over betting on this and if he loses, he will be viewed as a complete clown and moron. He should just compete more and win in regular season races instead and be less overly arrogant. Betting all your chips on one race is stupid, especially when you make statements on social media like "My favorite part about winning is seeing everyone else lose" yeah man, you lost 3 straight global championships and also lost numerous other races, what a dumb*ss.
Jakob gets a sore throat because he typically trains and races to the edge of overreaching Races give him confidence but doesn’t change the fact he’s giving away speed side capability to Kerr and I think Jakob he was sandbagging a bit at Pre but Kerr took him with relative ease
I think the big breakthrough for Kerr was years of work followed by a bump in quality volume Bur in the end nutrition and recovery improvements got him the reserves to handle it all
Not much point in racing when you can run 800 reps at 1:52 is there? And Jakob has less pressure because only a few 3:30 1500 runners in the 5000m. Still my hunch is he’ll get out kicked in both. Just wish Whightman could be in the 1500 for that last 150m too.
Bump this thread when Kerr wins Olympic gold and handily defeats Jakob "blows my load in the pre-season" Ingebrigsten.
Hopefully he's staying in an isolated chamber for the next month so that he doesn't get "sick" again.
I never mentioned Jakob. See how Kerr is irrelevant without mentioning a guy who is 10x better than him? Also, a 443 2k and a 343 mile with a 723 3k is hardly blowing a load in the preseason.
10x better? Since when? Lol. You Jakob fanboys are getting out of hand. Last I checked Kerr beat Jakob when it mattered the most. The sauce Jakob is on is really getting out of hand.

More like Kerr and Mackey are not confident enough to do it because they think racing gets in the way of peaking and winning at the big stages. The evidence is Kerr was in huge shape in February, March and May. There’s some pretzel logic thinking he’ll be in peak shape in August but would be struggling in June-September. Kerr has kinda hinted at this with his enjoying being the best in the world comments in the world. I think in the past they really thought Jakob was freakish in the ability to compete at a high level all year, but now they’re realizing if you get really fit and disciplined you can do that and it’s not really that system-specific. Kerr losing motivation and having a bad diet probably had more to do with his ups and downs than differences in training.
