What sucks the most about this attitude is that there are male victims of s*xual abuse from women who are scarred and because the resounding attitude is "look how hawt the teachers are!" they won't ever be able to come forward, or be validated.
Speaking as a woman, these women's actions are despicable and should be treated the same way as you would a male teacher. I'm tired of people doing the wink wink nudge nudge at literal kids who might actually be scarred. It's BS.

What upsets me about the dialogue about teachers who sleep with students whether one time or more times, assumes that it's always an egregious crime and that it always leaves someone harmed.
If there are victims (like Roman Polanski's victim) who emerge from rape without trauma, isn't it possible that a high school senior who's one year away from adulthood might not have trauma from it?

Not sure Polanski is a good example. Teachers shouldn't be having sex with their students. But when it does happen, I think it does matter whether the sex was purely consensual or whether the teacher engaged in any sort of coercion/grooming. Making it a crime to fall in love with someone just because the relationship developed at the wrong time or making it a crime when people just get horny and have sex for fun starts to seem more like an effort to impose a religious rule barring sex before marriage than it serves to protect against any harm. Firing the teacher and revoking their teaching license/cert and getting the student counseling is probably a much better way to deal with these issues. Criminal sanctions should be reserved for instances where the teacher engages in grooming or any other sort of coercion.
And above all this is the fact that our society still has an extremely Victorian attitude about the sexual debut of children at a time when sexually explicit material is one click away on the internet and kids are hitting puberty at younger ages. Boys are under constant peer pressure to score with girls and girls are told to protect their precious virginity. This leaves kids in a quandary where they have no idea what role sex should play in a healthy committed relationship and end up draw to dysfunctional sexual relationships.
She lived a mile or so from myself and was known as a village bike, unlucky that one of those kids were the dad which made her guilty as it could have been one of many around here.
Are you kidding me?! I would have cleaned the blackboards for a year to be seduced by those two in high school. The criminal statute should include an exception for hawtness (female only of course!)

Here here! I'm afraid that charging them criminally will send the wrong message.
One of the two graduated from the same high school in 2019. The alleged sexual contact with the students took place between October 2021 and January 2022. So, she was just a sophomore in college or a second year student at a community college. She must have either been doing some student teaching (usually not done until an ed major is a junior or senior) or did some parttime ancillary service like coaching or tutoring. And it is very possible that the student knew the woman when she was a student at the high school and had social circles that overlapped. Then, you have charges coming out over two years since this all happened.
I am not saying that young staff/teachers get to fool around with high school kids at will. But when the age difference is that small, I am not so sure hauling this woman off to jail is really the right thing to do. And given the timing of all this, I have a feeling there is more to this story.
The age difference is not the key factor here. It is that the women may have been in positions of power. I think GA has a law (as do most states) about teachers/staff not diddling students because there is a power dynamic there.
Let's also not forget these two were married as well. They seem like real winners.

I could not disagree more. We are talking minors here 90% of the time. We are also talking about a power imbalance.
"Falling in love"? Please...
No one is making it a crime to have sex but yes we as a society have determined that some should be off limits.
The whole excuse of boys being under pressure to score is just a fantasy. You have seen American Pie too many times.

I appreciate this. When I was in ninth grade my young-ish female English teacher groped or outright grabbed my penis repeatedly whenever she could corner me, at first over my pants and later actually reaching in and directly “playing with” me on two occasions. I’ll never know why I was picked for this, or if there were others. I was as horny as any other boy of that age and was always chasing girls my age, but I didn’t want what she was doing and it was not a case of, oh well, I’m a boy so I like it. It was degrading and horrifying.

You can make something off limits without throwing people in jail.
I disagree that there is always an issue of a power imbalance. And sometimes that power imbalance is reversed. The teachers are often isolated in the burbs or small communities or are in bad relationships and are very lonely. The students are sexually active and pursue the teachers because they are more mature than their classmates. I used to work in high schools and know of several instances of teachers who met their spouses when they were students. They kept in touch after graduation and eventually started dating and ended up getting married. Point is that a bright line making any teacher student intimate relationship a crime is at best an overreaction. At worst, it is the imposition of a religious standard on consensual sex without a rational basis. Save criminal sanctions for when there is evidence of grooming, pressure, coercion, etc. As it now stands, the criminal sanctions end up just being a way for the parents to avoid dealing with the fact that their child is sexually active and made a bad decision.

Hard disagree. Kids are off limits 100% of the time. You’re talking about adults years later. Not the same.

If it is a TEACHER and a STUDENT, then there is always a power imbalance. Being lonely is NOT a power imbalance!
YOU worked in HS? Man I feel for those students!
I have no issue if a teacher and student met in HS and YEARS LATER dated and got married.
