What’s absurd is the hypocrisy here. Most people were against an exception being made for a black woman in the 800, but they want an exception being made for a white man in the 800.
Holt is everything right with the sport. Didn't go to a big name school. Kept running because he loves the sport & wanted to see how far he could push himself. Joined a pro team (but with no sponsor) because they saw his workouts on Strava. Got bounced in the 1500. Got a Puma deal. Came back in the 8 & seemingly made the final. How could you not root for this guy? Will never understand comments like this. Of course we all see ourselves in Holt. He represents the best in us.
USATF needs to fix this. He didn't gain an advantage & didn't try to gain an advantage. Just use common sense. Holt in the final grows the sport.
It’s cool he qualified for the Trials, but I can’t root for him to make the finals or qualify for the team. I want the best runners on the line, period. He’s not one of the 12 best milers in the country. He’s not one of the 9 best 800m runners in the country.
I can still be inspired by him without needing to give him unearned validation and pity spots in finals.
Hot take, but I think this is better for Holt long term even though it will be very frustrating now.
He wasn’t going to make the team anyways and now he’s making a bigger name for himself by being DQed and is even more the “people’s champ”. People will always be rooting for him going forward after this.
The people’s champ. He wasn’t gonna make the team anyway
I get this, but , an I am a rules stickler, usually. But after rewatching and seeing his excitement, I can barely see the point in this, it is pretty ticky tack. No advantage gained at all really. It's a shame.

Hate to burst your bubble but without the DQ he's in the final & IS one of the 9 best 800m runners in the country. The men's 800 has been inconsistent for years. Kessler/Miller looked great in the semis but let's face it anyone on the start line in the final has a shot at making the team. Nobody is running Rudisha times out there. Nobody is giving him unearned validation (he's worked for that himself) & nobody wants to give him a pity spot. USATF should use common sense & let him run. He didn't gain an advantage. This shouldn't be a story.

and your point is?
I’m pointing out the difference. When a black woman with an adverse outcome in the 800 filed an appeal, the majority was against her and told her to quit complaining. When a white man with an adverse outcome in the 800 filed an appeal, the majority was on his side and complaining on his behalf. People were sticklers for the rules when they pertained to a black woman, but now they want to bend the rules in favor of a white man.
What? Nobody knows either of them or really cares about his DQ or her fall. Interesting how she impacted him. So he should be upset at Mu according to you because she somehow caused him to be DQed? Now people will really not like her.
All of all the DQs that could have been called in yesterday's races, this is the one they call? Bulls#$t. UST&F should realize that (a) he didn't gain any advantage, (b) his story is good for the sport.

I’m a liberal and you are the reason we are being made so much fun of these days. What an absolutely ridiculous take on this.

Yes LRC was getting so toxic, so karma bites on their golden boy 😝😝😝

By what metric is he one of the best 800m runners?
He is the 18th fastest US 800m runner of 2024. Colin Sahlman is faster.
He has not beaten any of the other finalists in a single 800m race this year.

Are you serious? How about by the metric that he just made the Olympic Trials final?

I don't quite understand, please help me. Are you talking about Mu? She ran her legs into another runner. If anyone deserved a re-run, it was Raevyn Rodgers. What should they do - re-run the whole race and keep repeating it until Mu qualifies? Seems kinda unfair to the other women in the heat who did nothing wrong (who are mainly POC I'll add).
Re-running a final (especially one that is a Olympic qualifier!) is a lot different than adding one more runner to a final field.
