That’s a horrible take.. 3 years ago Sha'Carri Richardson gets a thc ban and missed the opportunity to run the Olympic Games… Now the guy who is famous for smoking weed is the new NBC commentator.
Michael Phelps got a DUI for alcohol AND for Marijuana. Go b!tch about him please.
Honest question here: did Snoop ever commit serious crimes? People in this thread are calling him a criminal and murderer. I thought he just rapped about smoking weed and hot women. He was never more than an entertainer, was he?
Here's the story - he and his bodyguard were acquitted of murder:
Rap star Snoop Doggy Dogg and his former bodyguard McKinley Lee were found not guilty of murder Tuesday in the 1993 slaying of a gang member who was shot to death in a West Los Angeles park. The ju…
Nothing against Snoop. Smart guy who knows how to self promote and entertain.
But this isn't an attempt to grow the sport. It's just NBC trying to get people to watch the broadcast to get more ad dollars. The additional audience they might isn't there to watch any of the events they are there to be entertained by a celeb.
This does little to 'grow the sport'. But, hey, the fans don't actually have to pay attention to the steeple (or whatever) they can be entertained by Snoop.
I got more texts about Snoop commentating track than I did about any results from the first two days.
I can’t believe people are complaining about it.
congrats that your volume of texts grew!
of course, that has nothing to do with growing interest in track.
Dope smoker, criminal icon, hasn’t even the slightest clue about the sport. He shouldn’t have any place on NBC presenting the Olympic Track Trials or Olympic Games. He’s what’s wrong with America; the optics are completely wrong. NBC’s judgement is insulting and shameful.
Hes 52 and ran a 34.44 second 200m or something lol. Hes better than the average letsrun poster.
You morans that see this as a bad thing or probably inconsistent here.
Is Caitlin Clark is a good thing for the WNBA? Of course, but Angel Reese and others don't like it because the attention's not on them but Clark has been tremendous in getting attention for the WNBA. Trust you me, the US trials will be on TMZ and the other entertain shows tonight and with 6 days remaining that could mean more viewers for the sport.
Back in my sports management days, the first time I ever made USA Today was when it came to light light that I was arguing with an athlete. I thought the call was off the record and probably it was a little too candid but my name was nationwide the next day, word for word. My phone was ringing off the hook and that showed me that any press is good press. Go, Snoop!
not a great analogy ... caitlin clark is actually a player... you know, she participates in the sport... she is good for it... (you know like, anna hall or lyles)
snoop is an entertainer... he's great at entertaining... has nothing to do with the sport...
they (NBC) aren't growing the sport they are trying to entertain people who don't care about the sport of track... which is fine cause that's what they get paid for but it's not helping people be interested in track.
Now part of the NBC broadcast team heading to Paris; are you kidding me?
Why not? Regular Americans couldn't care less about track. Hell, the commentators have to explain what a rabbit is every race there is one. Track is extremely low on the American totem pole of sports. What's the problem with trying to attract more attention? I thought it was fun seeing Snoop get excited about steeplechasers hurdling over the water pit. Lighten up.

and who is complaining... just stating facts.
In only a handful of words you claimed that an anecdote about increased interest has nothing to do with increased interest, then confused a value assessment for fact. Efficiently stupid.

the texts are about 'the commenting' not track ... pay attention

And the subject of the commentary was what? Do you think that these people tuned in for 5 seconds then stopped watching?

if you think snoop's entertaining comments during the steeple helped grow the sport so that new people will be tuning into diamond league races or going to local college meets next year, more power to you... but i disagree...
he isn't growing the sport. he's entertaining people who don't care about track. which was my point.
as i said, nothing against snoop... he's doing the job he's getting paid to do... but it's not helping 'grow the sport'...

Move fewer goalposts, start using words correctly, and lay off the ellipses... and you might not look stupid on the internet...
He will appeal to certain viewers. More purist commentators will appeal to other viewers. A lot of people watch these things and if they continue to watch in the future, that is a good thing.
It's a big sport and it can handle some diversity in terms of who the commentators appeal to. It broadens the appeal and I am confident that the sport can weather it.

no.... i'll use as many.... ellipses ... as... i want...
and no goal posts were moved... you'd know that if you would actually... read... and ... comprehend...
How big is the “Snoop Effect”? Have there been huge increases in viewship?
snoop is not funny, basically just a joke of a human who doesn’t understand the sport. Big Foot was appropriately funny and entertaining during the WC22, snoop dogg not so much; mostly degrading.
