That was a bit painful to watch…she’s never been a ‘sit and kick’ type of runner. Her only chance will require an ‘honest pace’ for the entire race. The ‘rust was showing’ under the strain. I’m still proud of her for the effort. Cranny just loves this type of race…
Given her 4:06/4:24 1500/mile PBs, closing this race off the slow pace in 4:35 shows she's in way better shape than I think most people would have expected. Nice to see.
The positive spin would be she was pretty close to (and beat some) 15:00-15:10 runners
That's the right spin. No races at all this year, off a long injury break. Qualifying for the finals is a good result. I'd guess that not too many people would have guessed she'd finish ahead of Emely Infield and Natasha Rogers. Its a good result given the circumstances.

Getting a Q is all she needs for today. We will see how she holds up against a stronger field in the final.

Watching the men’s 10k, Grant Fisher had the right strategy. He knew he couldn’t out kick Kincaid so he pushed the pace with 3 laps remaining. Tuohy has beaten Cranny before by pushing the pace with more than 400m left. She seems to have come close to her pre-injury fitness level so the potential is still there for the final.

I agree I think Valby will make the pace very hones and we shall see how Tuohy can handle a faster paced race. My gut tells me she is more fit than race sharp so the 4:35 final 4 laps today was not too bad a close. But sub 15 looks unlikely to me at this time as does top 5.
I don't know why someone is downvoting my statement, Ray Fynn, of Flynn SPorts Management, who represents Tuphy said very clearly in an interview that he does not expect her to be on the starting line. You would think the Tuohy obsessed people here would have seen this.
Even her agent doesn't realize how good she is.....stay tuned.

The agent said he thought it was unlikely she'd be in shape to compete in the trials back in May. Pretty sure if he was asked closer to the actual date he would have said something different.

In her post race interview she said she didnt start even really running again until the very beginning of may

That's BS. Her Instagram post from running with Nick Bare in Austin is dated May 13. Nobody who hasn't run in months is going to go do a video shoot their first week back. She had been running for a while at that point. Probably started actual workouts by then. To quote astro: "seemingly unnatural ability to recover from injury." But, of course, this only applies to Valby. Must have been one "magical" trip to Austin.
