Schweizer when running well covers all moves and can close a race out at the end. Cranny is a strength runner with a good kick for a 5/10 runner but not a top end miler kick, see her 10k PR race, her trying to make big moves against the worlds top milers in Monaco last summer or her indoor 5k american record. Andrews has had big breakthroughs in time trial races but has a tendency to finish just out of the medals in a championship race. Rachel Smith knows how to take advantage in a tough race and grab a spot on the team, same with Rogers. ESP seems like she is racing to prove something out there. I like Henes best at the 10k, I think she can run a smart race and be in a good position at the end. Ella Donaghu out raced a bunch of fast runners at world xc in the mixed relay, I think when running well may be similar to schweizer in covering moves and trying to kick at the end.
Valby has shown she can push a fast pace with the best of them, but has never raced anyone as fast as the women listed above. When she has raced women on par with her in fitness and speed she has not shown an ability to outkick anyone. Outside of her 5000s against Tuohy (who she should be expected to beat at the trials), in a faster close race I was really only able to find a DMR from 2023 (Razorback Invite) where she was passed by Taylor Roe and Lauren Gregory. She's gotten faster, but the speed required to hold off those two in a DMR (especially letting Gregory catch her from 4 seconds back and easily beating her) is about what I would expect her to need in the 5k. She'll need to navigate prelims that are at least as stacked as the NCAA final and be ready to race again a few days later.
