Withteman closed in 52.5 in a 3:34 race.
Kessler closed in 52.8.
Holt closed in 52.9.
Nobody is taking care of someone easily who closed in 52.9. In a kicker’s race, the margins are inherently more slim and more volatile. Whiteman has to be pleased with that effort as a tuneup for championship racing. Kessler, on the other hand, knows he is fit and clearly has the tools, but still is very lackluster tactically. You just cannot put yourself in 6th at the bell of a 52 close and expect to win. He really needs to hope the trials goes fast, or has to be tactically brilliant on the day of the final.
