Fair point for sure. Wasn’t the strongest field but a diamond league win is legit. I should probably wait to pass judgment until we see how he runs the 1500 with 2 shoes.
If anybody truely believes he cant be competitive with jake or josh over 800 then jacob is messing with your head . His kick is as good as anybodies and i bet his competitors know that !!!!! Down vote away.
No Africans in that race. Are we supposed to be impressed?
No African in Euro champs? When Peter Snell ran his mile world record was that not impressive because "no Africans in the race"? No one from Antarctica either.
You might be right, but I’d wait to judge until after the 1500m. He really doesn’t seem too interested in the 5000 in interviews.
It's funny because he said after Stockholm the 5,000 is straightforward and doesn't have as many tactics as the 1500 e.g. fastest guy wins. But you saw this race with it being slow/packed, he had so much trouble figuring where to run, when to protect his position, and so on. I didn't see him bring up heat as an excuse which I consider a positive.
On the Jakob side of things, he's definitely in great shape. Granted, nobody really tested him but that was an excellent last 200. Standing by it having to be at least a sub-12:55 race (blazing last 3,000) to have any chance of him not just eating up everyone alive the last 300.

Yeah I wonder why it’s called the “European Championships”
Yes I know why there weren’t any Africans in the race. The reason they were absent doesn’t change my question. Are we supposed to be impressed that he beat a bunch of Europeans in a 5000? Europeans aren’t strong in that event.
Filip did low 51 when he won European 1500m championships in 2016 in 3.46 and i really struggle to see Jakob being any slower. Unless the race is sub 13 i think sub 51 is needed to beat Jakob
Slow poke Jakob ran 51.6 to win his 3:34.9 semi last year and looked like he was jogging lol
A typical championship jog for 10 and a half laps until Jakob hit the afterburners and it never looked in doubt. Was expecting more from Nordas given this kind of race favours the milers but he didn't even finish top 10.
Just business as usual for the big J man.
I don't think we can realistically expect Nordas to be a factor in any 5000 anymore, you could've written off last year's Worlds as a fluke / bad day but at this point it seems to be a pattern. Which is quite odd considering his old background as a longer distance guy...
In fairness and credit to George. He attacked Jakob and raced to win. When you race to win and not just to come second or third you risk a lot by tying up in the last straight
Ing closed in 53 and didn't look to be anywhere near flat out. He was looking around the whole time to see if he needed to accelerate more.
I down voted this as Jakob was breathing hard that last lap. He didn't have a whole lot in reserve. An extra gear? Yes, but today's race/workout wasn't simple.
Yes you’re right. A truly elite athlete should only breathe shallowly. If he’s using his lungs to their full capacity it’s a mark of an inferior athlete.
