Jerry has more haters here than for any other coach but he's done a nice job in developing Cook. The haters will say Cook.was already a decent runner when Jerry arrived but Jerry has brought out his racing abilities. Cook hasn't run fast times yet, but those will come.
I was unsure if I agreed with Overton that Sahlman would be most comfortable with a faster pace but she turned out 100% correct. Sahlman ran no extra distance the last 400 yet 5 guys ran a faster last lap.
I think Sahlman chose a reasonable tactic that gave him every chance to win, he just didn’t quite have enough. No real shame in finishing 4th in such a deep field, beating guys like Essayi and Green.
Waskom is now something of a ? going into the Trials. Based on last summer and tonight’s race you’d think he’s among the favorites, while based on everything in between you’d think he was a long shot to make the final.
Sahlman just didn't have it at the end, it's hard to imagine that he could have made a tactical choice that would have helped him much. He obviously gassed hard. As far as Waskom vs. Kessler, I think it just depends on the race. Apart from Nuguse, I don't think anyone is a lock, and Waskom is a total gamer.
Sahlman looked a bit out of his depth tactically there, but he’s still young and will be back. Is it crazy to have waskom over Hobbs at the trials at this point? Very impressive

Everyone was saying Sahlman was a gamer after the last month. Nuguse, Hocker and Kessler all have another gear. A gear over Waskom. Sorry.

Yeah Sahlman ran a smart race, but maybe pushed a little too hard 50m early. Waskom seems to be all over the place, but if last year is any guide he’ll be set for Trials.
Kessler has been very impressive this year, but we can’t forgot was waskom did at USAs last year. He’s no slouch
Yeah on paper it’s easy to pick the top 3 runners on Nuguse Kessler and Hocker but the trials isn’t a time trial, it’s a pure race and whoever can execute the best makes the Olympics.

Well, I will definitely be watching. If the final is fast, you are right, those three are a cut above. But if it is slow then the story could be different.
Aw what a nice interview from Waskom shouting out his teammates first thing. I think last year I said the same thing about Green, what they have at UW sounds awesome :)
With that said, Green and Houser were 10th and 12th. Seems like they never all perform on the same day, but on any given day it could be any of them.
I didn’t see the interview. What was said about Green? Really like the guy but he seems to be underperforming a lot recently. I thought he was the next big thing 2 years ago. 10th is…not good. Didn’t make the 800 final despite 2nd fastest seed time IIRC indoors

He was pretty emotional and he said Green and Houser have been with him every day and he's grateful to have them and he couldn't have done it without them.
I've been saying Waskom is the next big thing for 2 years, and he's had his downs, particularly running like 3:51 indoors and then not even being close to the win last year. He still performs outdoors though. Green ran 3:34 earlier this season, he may have just gone a bit too hard too soon/run too much in lane 2. Sahlman probably could've been 2nd today but he started his kick too early and gave out 10m before the line. He got 4th indoors and outdoors, but I think this one was a much better race from him.
Incredible race, Sahlman tried to control it from the front from the start and it almost worked, feel like if you run that race again 10 times you'd have the same top 4 with maybe Essayi sneaking in. Can't wait to watch that one again.
Sahlman ran about perfectly, maybe went a bit too soon and ran a bit too wide for a curve or so. He will win next year, IMO.
Sahlman should try going wire for wire next year if he comes out stronger after a year in Flagstaff. These guys only win in insane kicks off of a 64 sec 2nd lap. He can zap them of that kick if he is fit enough.
