Kind of funny how all the big names say they “were sick” when they didn’t perform to their expectations. Just say you didn’t perform as well as you had hoped. You at least tried your vest

Gary Martin is not as talented as you all think. He's just never going to be a 3:32 guy. It's his genetics.
His muscle fiber type is best for 3k/5k but he is too tall and heavy. His build is good for 800m but he doesn't have the speed and turnover.
He's doing better than I expected him to do in college at UVA. Their 800m guy Cohen is a BEAST, Mountain is the favorite to win the steeplechase and his teammate Porter qualified in the 1500 for the final.
Hard to blame the training when everyone else on the team is doing so well. Gary is just not what you think he is.
I like where you're going with this...someone get the message to Vin that Gary's now a steeplechaser, stat!
Actually, Shane ran 1:48 and change at Tampa as an underclassman (and made the NCAA DII final twice) and then developed a femoral stress fracture during xc his senior year which is why he only ran 1:53 as a senior, but yes, he has improved under Vin.
Vin is both a good coach and a thorn in many people's side (Sean Brosnan situation, previous two schools, reputation of him first, potential athletes second, athletes third, and other coaches dfl), they don't need to be mutually exclusive points. I think while Gary Martin did improve, it's a little hard to tell if it's because of his drive to succeed despite circumstances, or because of solid coaching.
One less-than-deal does not a failed season make, that's for sure(@parvej khan), and if any season is make or break it'll be next year.
For an athlete trending up and a coach trending down, it's something to be wary about.
