If josh gets complacent in the slightest, he will not be prepared to take Jakob on in the Olympics. Jakob is in the middle of base phase…but props regardless to Josh. What an amazingly dominant performance from 600 out.
A lot of people talking up Jakob saying he will get faster, and he will. But keep in mind that since 2019, Kerr has ran his fastest time of each year in either the World or Olympic championship final. He knows how to peak, it's not new territory for him. Kerr is going to get better as well.
This. People are rightly impressed with Jakob's opener; hell of a race by him and he will of course get better. But anyone assuming this is Kerr's tippy-top are simply ignoring what the evidence tells us. Kerr has shown he knows how to be ready for the biggest races, he's strong as an ox, 1000% hungry, and has higher top end speed (and thus more tactical options). Jakob has a very tall task in front of him if he is to win 1500 gold.
Kerr ran an amazing race especially with the push from a long way out, but "stomped the field" and "destroyed Jakob" are perhaps a bit hyperbolic, don't you think? He was less than a quarter of a second ahead of Jakob.
But a quarter of a second is an eternity at that level, and he did so in a convincing manner. (ala Jakob's frontrunning)
Oh please, a quarter of a second in a 1500m is not an eternity at any level. Ngeny was a quarter of a second back of El G during the famous mile world record - was he an "eternity" behind him.
Jakob ran one of his best last 400s ever, 53.3-53.4. It is not about the kick, but he lacks Kerrs speed resources. If so, how the h--- is he going to win in the Olympics? Kerr had more left in his fueltank. This has nothing to do about who is the fastest at 800. Nordas, for example, is a alow guy, but when he reaches top speed at 1500 even he might be better than Jakob at the last 500.
i almost puked watching Kerr's post-race interview.the dude is too much for me to handle. "who better than to push the pace than the CURRENT WORLD CHAMP?" bro, chill out.
Jakob won't be able to run away from Kerr in the Olympics but he can't let it go slow or he will end up with nothing. He may possibly be able to run away from him in a paced diamond league later in the season but no chance without a pacer. I don't see how he beats Kerr unless Kerr messes up tactically.
Also three Brits in before Hocker. Didn't Rojo reckon the US team is harder to make than GB, LOL.

but when you put everything together, that's indeed an eternity. I mean he even won the race in Jakob's way, leading from 600m and Jakob was never able to respond.

Exactly. Unless somehow Jakob managed to front-run a 3:26, he wouldn't be able to run away from Kerr. Even 3:27 was not enough to seal the deal.

It's not an eternity lol. What are you basing "but when you put everything together" on? And Jakob was never able to respond? He sat right behind him until the very end, both had the same last lap except Kerr started it much earlier.

It's not, you're using hyperbole. Kerr ran a great race. He didn't front-run the race from the gun but he took the lead in the last two laps and wound it up (ala El G). It was a good win.
Jakob did respond - he hung with Kerr and moved up towards Kerr's shoulder at the beginning of the homestretch. I genuinely didn't know who was going to win until around 50-60 to go when Jakob seemed to settle in behind Kerr.
It's a great sign for Kerr's fitness but let's not talk as though he mopped the floor with Jakob. He won by less than 2 meters.
I just rewatched the last 600 and Kerr didn't separate at all from Jakob over the last 400. That's bad news for Kerr, who will need his kick advantage if he's to beat Jakob in Paris.
In fact, if anything, I think Jakob decided with about 80 meters to go to not pull out to lane two and give it everything he has. It actually looked like Jakob eased up over the last 30 meters whereas Kerr balls'ed out and even leaned at the tape.
Kerr appears to be trying to improve his kick from far out (very Jakob-like), and I could see that being his undoing when Jakob has cleared out the cobwebs and then can outkick him over the last 200.
