Boffey seemed to run out of gas before the line letting Wiley past for 3rd but both out.
I'm watching the BBC broadcast of the 800m heats. Some controversy with Denise Lewis talking about the non-selection of Guy Learmonth by the UKA for "not being good enough for these championships" despite qualifying by his world ranking. No British men in the 800m, yet Izzy Boffey selected as usual, despite only running one sub 2 minute 800m in her life and never making finals despite continual selection.

It was sad listening to Jack Buckner speak on this (or rather, avoid answering). I used to race him in my college days and had great respect for him as a runner.
Some thoughts from the morning session: Commentators were way too concerned about Noahs start in the prelims. He knows how to navigate the rounds as well as what to do in the final. I would not like to run next to Omanyala with how he drifts, it could get him DQed in the next two rounds. Terrible running by the American men in the 400m and Richards looks like a nonfactor. Hoppel looked good in his heat but Harris looked strained. I think Wiley ran a good race but just didn't have the fitness this indoor season. She needs a little work on her finish. Klaver had to run harder than she expected to win the break which could affect her in the later rounds, the only way to beat Bol would be to win the break, Diggs looked fine but I don't know if she'll make the finals, and Holmes did great with minimal effort.
Bol mentioned on Dutch tv that being put against Holmes was a nasty surprise because she wasn't sure how she'd have to run her race. She was aiming for a 52 but might have had to run a 50 if Holmes went out hard, but luckily didn't.

seem to remember Issy running in the finals at Torun?
Whilst Holmes appeared to run comfortably within herself, her slowest time of all the qualifiers means she gets lane 2 in the semi.
She will potentially have a lot of traffic in front of her at the break and just qualifying for the final, let alone being in a position to get a good lane, is going to be difficult.
She certainly has the ability to overtake in the final 50 if she stays relaxed, but Miklos and Jaeger are scrappy competitors so it's going to be tough.
Bol looked like she literally jogged her heat. She should cruise through to the final. Klaver is also set up well with her draw. It shouod be NED 1 and 2 come the final.

I had indeed forgotten her 6th place finish in the European Indoors in Torun 3 years ago in 2:07.26.
I don't have anything against Issy Boffey, although I would like to have seen her improve more. Its just obvious that certain athletes or perhaps certain training groups are favoured by UKA.
They don't like Olympic 6th placer and 1.57 runner Alex Bell either, although not relevant to these particular championships. Another selection howler in recent years was UKA's absolute refusal to select Andy Vernon unless he ran the qualifying time twice. Very different to the opportunities they gave Mo Farah to qualify in the 10000m recently.

Looks like they finagled the heats, putting the GB and IRL runners in non-Dutch heats where they would've been running for only one auto Q. Plus in the 3 way dead heat in the third heat they gave the IRL runner the auto.
It often seems like people in America are complaining about the commentary on the US broadcasts. Watching the BBC commentary with my NordVPN (I'm fishing for a free supporter's club membership;), this is pretty horrible. The lady with the MASSIVE glasses from the morning session! Someone else must have noticed it as they're gone for the evening session now. They talk sooooo much too. Wondering if I should go back to watching the Swiss broadcast. They usually have Victor Röthlin on there.
