BU needs to rake in the money now. WIth the NB track and the UPenn track up and running soon, the amount of teams attending BU will be going down, if is has not already stated. Add to it, Gabe has been overspending and alumni donations are likely down from what people have posted on LR.
This isn’t normal. BU indoor meet charges $100 for a 5k entry. It’s indoors. No t-shirt. No medal. No price money. They don’t even pay good for pacers. what’s going on? we shouldn’t support this. It’s killing the sport.
Killing the sport when it’s one of the best indoor races on the calendar? Find a new take please.

Apparently there's only one mini-meet this year. In my day there were 3! Still, only $25 for a 3K and under.

I think the New Balance A night at the Track Meets have sort of replaced the BU mini meets.
The demand for the other BU meets is so high, that it makes sense to have the $107 entry fee. Feels like a steal compared to the travel costs and room charges the colleges spend to get their athletes to the meet. Didn't one of the BU meets last year set a record for most runners under 4 in a single meet? The high prices might help the sport if it incentivizes some meets at the same level to pop up in other cities. Or is indoor track destined to just be NY/Boston centered?
BYU is flying to Boston three times this season to run at BU. They have 18 entered. I doubt they care much about the entry fees. They care about fast times which qualify for nationals.

Oh, that's a good point.
Dempsey Indoor in Seattle usually has 4-5 meets a year, similar to BU. Super stringent unattached standards. The track is also 307 meters. At least Boston/NY have more options than just the one spot.
