He should consider running Chicago depending on how he’s feeling.
Is this something that Fauble would consider? It'd be pretty sweet to add Fauble to the Chicago mix. If the conditions are good on race day it could be a solid day for Americans there. Previously, he said he hadn't planned on doing any fall marathons.
If it was a nutrition/stomach issue, then coming back for Chicago makes sense. He'll still have his fitness and Berlin was really just a 15 mile marathon pace effort followed by a cooldown jog, so it shouldn't have depleted him too much. I think he at least needs to run 2:11:30 anyway. I don't think he has that time in the bank as Boston isn't eligible as a time qualifier. He'd be taking a risk that he can get it at the trials if he doesn't run something else this fall

I don’t believe that Fauble will run a marathon in the next couple weeks for 3 reasons.
1. He doesn’t believe he can run sub 2:08 on a legit course. 2. Another marathon would expose the truth. 3. He has no interest in running the Olympic Games and giving up 2 pay days.
I dont get the idea of "stomach issue". Excuse makers dont seem to understand that your stomach is attached to all your other body parts. If you are running too hard, you shift your cardiac output almost entirely away from the viscera to the skeletal muscle. Poor perfusion of the GI tract is what leads to "stomach issues". To illustrate the point, have anyone sit on a couch and drink a bottle of maurten. Will they hurl? no. What about at a nice easy jog? nope. You have stomach issues when you are going too hard.
This guy is a pro, he should have been training with his exact fuel, he should be prepared. Maybe he used berlin tap water and that didnt agree with him? maybe?
My feeling is the time change hit his circadian rhythems harder than he expacted, the travel took more out of him than he expected, and maybe he just wasnt quite as fit as he wanted.

If a 2:10 runner goes out at 2:07 pace, he is going to have problems. As simple as that.
I can't do it. I can't feel bad for Fauble when there are female runners finishing mere seconds behind him (and the other Americans).
He is a third rate marathonner. To feel bad for him because he missed the qualifier would be like feeling bad for myself missing the qualifier. Neither of us have a shot.
I'm so sick of our runners spending months talking up their preparation, sh!tting the bucket, and then moping around. Time to move on, Scotty
Yeah but Ryan also ran close to a 2:05 marathon on London, he ran 2:06.15 way back in 2008, so that is nothing to sneeze at and Americans should definitely be running much faster now! They should be running 2:03's by now!
Good lord the marathon is humbling. Guy goes through a whole training block, tapering, fastest course in the world, perfect weather… drops out @ 18 miles. I’d be devastated, and it’s only a hobby for me. Can’t imagine what he’s goin through
I think if you decide to become an elite marathoner you would just have to be going into it with the mindset that some of your marathon races in your career you are going to DNF or run poorly. At least then you would be somewhat mentally prepared for the natural disappointment that would come with those particular races and bounce back fairly quickly. I’m sure he will bounce back to a great race.
Gremlins, nutrition/stomach issues besides Fauble is just not that good. On the other hand, Bob Kepanian at the 1996 USA Olympic Marathon Trials was that good and tough. For the win, amazing! Google the race video.
