OK, fair points. But it illustrates the problem with our current state of affairs. Having an Olympic Trials meet in a place like Austin, Baton Rouge, Jacksonville, NYC, Boston, Philly, etc. would be fine for sprinters and jumpers, but our distance corps would suffer in the heat/humidity. Put it in a cool weather place, then the distance runners love it but the sprinters gripe that they didn't get a fair shot because it rained or was "only" 65 degrees. Altitude towns are straight out. A place like Des Moines might easily turn into a two week long meet due to near daily thunderstorm delays. Mt. SAC / Ontario, CA can be consistently pushing 95+ in late June as does Sacramento. You get the picture.
So, outside of Eugene (which has a proper facility), LA, San Diego, The Bay Area, Seattle, Minneapolis (none of which have an adequate WA/USATF certified track stadium at the moment), where are you going to put the Trials if all events have to take place at a single meet?
This is not directed at you, kartelite - but what wealthy individual, corporation, local government is going to build a proper track stadium in hopes of getting an NCAA/DL/USATF/Trials meet on an annual basis? Most posters offer nothing but whining or throwing an entire discipline, primarily distances, under the bus to get a possibly easier and cheaper travel option closer to home. The only reason that LA will host the Trials, and possibly NCAAs, in 2028 is that the organizing committee will insist on recouping some of the costs of putting a temporary track in the LA Coliseum.
