Jerry is not a terrible coach. You don't coach that many NCAA and USA champions/record holders while being a terrible coach. But he definitely does come off as a bit of a terrible person, and he is certainly doing a terrible job at Oregon right now. Actually a bit embarrassing tbh.
It’s more than coaching. You need to be able to recruit and attract top HS runners. Seems that’s been lacking as well. Apparently one star distance guy coming in next year. Lots more needed
You can argue all you want about the lack of results, but anyone who has actually met and interacted w Jerry will attest that he is genuinely a nice guy.
If there's one school that doesn't have issues recruiting stars, it's Oregon. There are four runners who broke 4:00 in high school at Oregon right now (and another that just graduated but ran for Jerry last year). Plus stars like EJ Holland and Izaiah Steury, and a million sub-4:10/sub-9:00 walk-ons.

Gee, dalia Frias a terrible recruit? Mia Barnett a “garbage in” recruit? He’s getting great recruits.

Let’s be honest. Those girls only went to Oregon because UCLA lost their coach. Oregon got lucky with McDonnell , Frias and Barnett. They would of never went to Oregon otherwise

They said the same thing about Bundy.
Seriously though, there’s being a friendly chatter and there’s blatantly lying about your knowledge of nandrolone and insisting on being weirdly secretive about your athletes (bad for the sport). I don’t know if he’s a “terrible person” but a couple of friendly conversations couldn’t convince me he’s not.
Ben Thomas might have more olympians this year than Jerry. Yet Jerry has a Nike sponsored pro team, an insane salary, every resource imaginable, and a legacy program every high schooler dreams of going to.

So now you are comparing him to a serial killer?? Wow that's a leap. I have personally had more than "a couple friendly conversations" with Jerry. I can only go off my personal experience and he is a really nice person. I'm sure he's "weirdly secretive" because a bunch of people behind their keyboards and the media are relentless in bashing everything they don't like, understand or agree with.
All this said I wouldn't send my son to run for him mainly because of the lack of racing. 4 years of college goes by quickly and I'd want my kid to get more opportunities. Shalane obviously has a completely different approach for the women. I've also spent quite a bit of time with her and while I'd qualify her as nice I find her more off putting and distant than Jerry. Again my own first hand opinion.
