How it is possible that people are this clueless? Americans aren't called Americans because they live in North America. They are called Americans because it's a shortened version of the name of the country, which is "The United States Of America."
No other country has the word "America" in its name. If other countries were called something like "The Canadian States of America" or "The Mexican States of America" then you might have a point. But they aren't, so you don't.
Wrong. You do realize that there people called Latin Americans and South Americans, right? Speaking of clueless
You're totally wrong. I've traveled extensively in Central and South American and not one person in that part of the world has ever said "I'm an American."
Please list any other countries named America. I'll wait.
What Grumpy is saying is correct. There are North and South Americans. NA is composed of the USA and Canada. That’s why you don’t see “America” written on USA shirts.
It sounds like you’re the one that needs a geography lesson. There are a lot more countries in North America than just the USA & Canada. Here they are, in alphabetical order:
Antigua and Barbuda Bahamas Barbados Belize Canada Costa Rica Cuba Dominica Dominican Republic El Salvador Grenada Guatemala Haiti Honduras Jamaica Mexico Nicaragua Panama Saint Kitts and Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Trinidad and Tobago United States of America

Sad damn original post actually. She's a young person. It's not like she's stopping people from eating and sleeping, or infringing on anyone's health and safety. Let her life take it's course like anybody else.

I missed Greenland
Greenland is a territory of Denmark. “Technically” a part of North America but usually associated with Europe
She hates competing, is more into the glam life than track life and does not even shake hands at the end of the semi or do interviews. I am becoming less of a fan.
What a sad idiot! I am sure you're one of the Ingebrigsten fanboys who's turned this into his stan board but, oh, let some girl dare have a personality and she should be cancelled.
Definitely WAS rooting against her. Genuinely happy that she lost. Will be OK with her imminent retirement.
Same. Tired of rooting someone associated with hype, attitude, mysterious statements, lack of interest in the sport etc. Just run and stop with constant drama. Her behavior at Worlds made it seem like someone forced her to attend., Happy someone else won who actually is passionate about the sport

Yes. Nike must have told her that they don't pay her the big bucks just so she can skip global championships whenever she feels like it.
The more all of us think about it, this must be the deal. So what happens if she never races again? I don't mean this year; there's no possibility of her stepping to the line that soon. I mean next year..... and forever. Isn't that a strong possibility? Like, this was her last race?
Formally announcing retirement will shut off the Nike tap. No announcement will be made next week. She doesn't have to say anything until USATF/OT next year. Between now and then, lack of racing won't turn any heads in Beaverton since nobody expects an appearance before then. But when that meet comes around, it will be apparent whether or not she is already retired as I write this. So she has another 10 or 11 months of whatever they pay her.
Or, she continues in the sport. Hard to say how likely that is.

I agree. Even if Athing Mu never intends to race again, I don't think she will announce her retirement from track right now. She has no other source of income outside of track so she would need some time to put another career together.
Having said that, I think that the most likely scenario is that she races at least one more year. I don't see her quitting right before the Olympics.
I’m rooting for her to prove her haters wrong, but I’m honestly cool with anyone winning in that event. I wouldn’t mind either Hodgkinson or Moraa breaking through for the gold, it would keep things interesting going into Paris and perhaps lead Mu and Kersee to rethink her racing schedule.
I think Mu struggles with extreme nervousness. They showed her and Moraa sitting in chairs in their warmups before today’s race and Mu was unnaturally motionless, just staring straight ahead—I think she was a nervous wreck.
Like many others apparently, I found myself rooting against her while watching the race. I don’t think it was as personal as it is for some people, I mostly like fresh storylines and results that fly in the face of NBC’s preferred narrative. And yeah, there was some amount of begrudging her for not racing this year and hoping that Moraa and Hodgkinson would be rewarded for racing DLs.
