You want ridiculous splits? At Rieti in 2001, El G ran 3.29.08 for the win. Nothing incredible about that right? Except he went through 800m in under 1.49 and 1200 in sub 2.44 (!!!) - he absolutely waded the last 150m by El G standards but the thought of that is just incredible.
EG 39.66 last 300 in his WR, Lagat 40.14 in his PR. Jacob would have to come through in 2:45.9 or so and crank a 40 flat if he wants that world record. His last 300 was 40.32 so I think it is possible - he can go 40 last 300, but 1200 split is crucial. Kiprop 2:45.78 last 300 was 40.9 or so. El G 2:44.75 is insane- must be fastest ever at 1200. Last 300 42.22. Fine line, but I think 2:45.9 is Ingebrigtsens best chance.
J Ingebrigtsen will not break 1500m world record by splitting 800m as slowly as he has split 800m this summer in his 1500m races. J I will need to split 800m sub-1:51. Your post concentrates on 1200m split and final 300m. J I has ZERO CHANCE of setting 1500m w.r. splitting 800m, 1:52.xx. J I is not capable of 1:52.xx 800m followed by 1:33.xx final 700m. J I can choose to impress his fanboys by racing 3:27.xx over and over by splitting 800m, 1:52.xx and final 700m 1:34.xx or 1:35.xx. J I will have to risk blowing up to set w.r.

Yeah man I'm just not sure about that. I think it has to be faster - mid 2.45's at the slowest. Yes he's improving and improved his final 300 a lot but he really was pushing it today. He would have to improve on that after almost a second improvement at 1200? Maybe, but my personal opinion (not right, just an opinion) is that it's more likely to happen if he just tried to run as many low 55's as he could to 1200 and then closed like he did today, even a fraction slower.
Back to the fastest ever 1200 - I mentioned it - it's not the 2.44.75 which was Rieti in 2002, it was the year before in 2001 where he ran 3.29. I was good friends at the time with Nico Motchebon who witnessed it first hand - he was 2.43.xx at 1200 then imploded with a 45 point last 300. The 800m was just under 1.49. That's the fastest 1200 I have ever heard of - race split or timetrial.

Wow, I have never heard of this 2001 Rieti race before. I was always under the impression his '02 race was by far his fastest splits. Is there a way to watch this anywhere? I can't find anything about it online except the final results.

I have looked far and wide for this race - no luck. The thing is somewhere in Italy some track and field nut has this taped on VHS for sure. I have even thought about how I could source it from some kind of archive etc - but I wouldn't know where to start. I can't even find the 2002 race anywhere.
