NW will have likely have enough depth to merit 1-2 extra spots but not get one unless it is Crater or Jesuit that finishes third.
Don’t count out Rocky Mountain ID though. Very deep team even though they graduated 3 seniors. They raced at Bob Firman last year and won it, and some good teams from other regions go there.
Any Washington teams have a chance? Seattle Preparatory School? Northwest used to be dominated by Washington teams on the boys side, but now it’s starting to get really hard for any of them to qualify for NXN

Unfortunately it seems Washington was effected the most during Covid form whatever reason and hasn’t been able to rebound

Kamiakin always seems to do their best at the end of the season but they have not been as good as 2017-2019

Seattle Prep is going to be good, almost certainly the best Washington team, although Kamiakin will be trying to change that.
On paper, Seattle Prep isn't going to get top 2 or 3 at NXR, but you never know, especially this early into the season.

I think on the boys side, it’s hard to argue with the fact that Crater and Coeur D’Alene are the best 2 teams in the Northwest right now
So I saw in the Idaho thread that Rocky Mountain’s top guy will miss the rest of the season due to injury. This put a huge blow on the team. Now this makes it even more true that no boys team will qualify from NW besides CDA and Crater. And there will be no at-large bids from that region.
Jesuit OR is good too but they lost their 1-3 and they always seem to underperform on the NXR NW course. So they need to beat autoqualifiers during the regular season if they want to get an at-large after getting third. But they never really seem to travel to face top teams from other regions. But this year they will be very young (most likely 1 senior scoring), so next year they should be ready to go after Crater graduated 3 key scorers.
Some of you all seem eager to skip past the actual racing, and go ahead with awarding NXN spots to teams when the season is barely getting started. There could be a few dark horses out there that by NXR will be ready to contend with Crater, Jesuit and CDA. Just sayin...

At-large bids are going to be almost impossible to hand out this year (at least on the guys side)
Northwest and southwest both have ~5 (+-1) teams that are in the top 30 or so in the nation.
California seems to have 3-4, and the Midwest might have 3 teams in the mix as well.
This isn't to even mention the south or southeast which both look unusually strong this year.
it's too early to say with Cali but I would assume they also have 5 top 30 teams. I wish NXN combined NY and Northeast and gave out 2 more at large bids so that each of the 3 regions can take 4 teams to NXN

This is something that everyone agrees with, except those in New York
Rocky Mountain's Cody Lucas ran 16:15.3 to finish first in the boys 5,000-meter race at the Tiger-Griz Invitational at Freeman Park in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
