I have seen the video where he finished second to Cheruiyot. Didn't get impressed by the way he run, a long and steady road is awaiting for him. If he has the patience.
Like it or not, road world champs are actual world champs too now. Technically, thinking otherwise is racist.
He didn't make the team this year, but he's got as good a shot as anyone not named Nuguse to make the team next year. Now that he's got a global gold on his resume, I trust Warhurst to have him ready for the Olympics. Willis got a gold and a bronze at the Olympics and all signs point to Kessler being more talented.

Yeah bump because all yall doubted me and now he's the mile world champ
I don´t think much have changed since the start of this thread.
Kessler is a fine and promising young runner but he isn´t an international top runner yet.
The only top runner in the WC road mile, Reynold C., underperformed and was beaten by multiple sub-elite runners so Kessler´s win over Reynold doesn´t prove anything.
Kobbs Hessler is already at the pinnacle of sport. Has even Kipchoge ever won a WC title on the roads? Nope. But Hessler has.
When was the last time someone won a global title with a WR?
All those soft runners do "tactical" races. Hessler just goes out and baaaaam. WR! His WR is so good that he wouda won the Rio Olympics with his 1500 SPLIT 😵💫
Watch him win the Olympics 800, 1500 and 5000 in 1:39/3:20/12:15. He will triple-triple 2024/28/32, then go to the marathon and run at least 1:55 bc he is a world record miler. EK doesn't have WR mile speed and for sure wasn't mile world champion.
I was in the stands in Boston last weekend and he was incredible in that race-so commanding and confident one would never guess he's only 20. And his running form is a thing of beauty. I was really surprised after winning in Boston that he wasn't hounded by fans (I think many people just don't know who he is)-but maybe that's a good thing to give him space to develop as an athlete and fly a little under the radar. I agree with other posters that I think he is Olympic gold material, certainly for 2028. Excited to keep cheering him on!
As a world class junior rock climber, and now this, he is easily the most talented true multisport athlete of all time.
The diversity of ability required to do both at a high level is unmatched.
You think so? Do triathletes or decathletes not count? Idk about anyone else but I hate lifting/swimming/cycling for exercise, and love climbing/running. Climbing and running are kinda on 2 opposite ends of the spectrum, but climbing is great for your core and back, and it's pretty aerobic, so I think it complements running pretty well.
Yeah, I think the thing that convinced me was seeing his form in that Sweat Elite video. Still blows my mind that he's only 20. I know I said he was a Ryun level talent, but 3:48 at 20 is still crazy fast. Hocker ran basically the same time at the same age, but he did it at the Olympics. I have a feeling Kessler is going to be in better shape 6 months from now.
